Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: 10mm and Blue Dot
June 10 2020 08:55:26 PM MDT
11.5gr of Blue Dot under a 155gr GDHP was very accurate thru my 4.5 in XDM, moving at 1340fps.

Wolff spring kit for the same length XD 45 works in the 10mm. I am happy with the 20lb recoil spring.

General Discussion / Re: NRA dishonesty on parade

This is your second post about your trigger, give it a rest. You should have sent it back but chose not to. Plenty of us picked these up when they came out last year and yes, they did have good triggers.

No, not that dishonesty. American Rifleman posted a review of the Springfield XDM in 10MM, which I own and have posted about. The review is at:

https://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2019/9/18/tested-springfield-armory-s-xd-m-osp-in-10-mm-auto/

The author unconditionally raves about the trigger, as have I but from the opposite point of view, as it is truly horrible. I posted a review stating that and that either the author had received a special review gun, or I had received a particularly awful one, or the author had no idea what he was taking about. The post appeared provisionally, i.e. I could see it, but with a note it was awaiting review by rifleman staff. I had also stated that the trigger was the single very worst one I had ever tried on a firearm and that I had immediately replaced it. Then the review was deleted. Apparently NRA will not allow negative comments for products sold by their advertisers.

This is an organization that has gone seriously off the rails and has become about as trustworthy as the NY Times.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Longshot and 10mm
April 22 2019 09:21:08 PM MDT
The barrels on the 10mm XDM's  seem to be on the tighter end of the tolerance scale. I have seen quite a few reports of faster than expected velocities for the given barrel length. How's the accuracy? I have found longshot is easy to get velocity but I never found an accurate charge in any of my 10mm`s. Most groupings were 5 to 6 inches at 12yds, very shotgun like. AA7,  AA9 and Blue Dot all delivered velocity and 1 to 3 inch groups at the same ranges with very little ladder testing.

Interesting. Would be in for a 6.5" version if true.

Wonder people's opinions of this revolver?
Much better than the typical GP100.?

I love mine. Trigger is a great, very clean break. The only thing I did was swap the wood grips for rubber.

Factory Ammo / Re: .460 Rowland Gel Test

Who's conversion?  From what I have read the comp is required to keep your slide from battering the frame. My XD conversion uses the stock recoil spring.

So I hadn't really looked into .460 Rowland before but it seems to be a pretty interesting caliber. You can push a 230gr JHP 1400fps and a 255gr .45 caliber hardcast 1200fps. Later when I've shot another few thousand rounds through my 10mm I may get a GLock 21 and convert it to .460 Rowland for open carrying. I'm not sure if it can do anything a 10mm cannot do, but I do think it is an interesting caliber.

Great caliber.  On most conversions you can download and get close to 45 acp performance so you can customize your loads for all sorts of situation. You will need to test to see how low you can go. Only downside is the comp makes the conversion pretty  long. A chest rig eliminates this drawback.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: XDM light firing pin strikes
February 12 2019 07:01:04 PM MST
I use S&B primers, Xdm runs them fine. I get light strikes with the same S&B primers in a tuned S&W 625 revolver.

Identical to the 45 ACp frame. The slide actually interchanges with my older 45 XD.

That Colt King Cobra looks nice! I will try to find a video on it.

Great link.  First place I have seen the Steyr A2 update.

I have had some good results.  In 10mm I have only tried it with 155gr GDHP projectiles thru my 4.5" XDM -

8.3gr netted approx 1237fps
8.5gr netted approx 1274fps
9.0gr netted approx 1335fps

Worked really good in 460 Rowland using a Nosler 185gr JHP shot thru an 4" XD -

12.5gr netted 1464fps, making a 2" group @10 yards

I just used my handy dandy recoil spring gauge on my 4.5" XDM's factory recoil spring and I came up with 20lbs.
I haven't fired a ton of hand loads out of it, but here are my brass-tossing adventures thus far.
1). Privi Part. 180g JHP (kinda wimpy load @1080 fps in a 5" 1911). XDM functioned fine. Brass ended up @8 feet to the 4 O'clock position.
2). PMC 170G JHP. Haven't chronological them but they have much more flame & punch than the PPIs.  Advertised MV is 1200fps. Brass ends up @ 12-15 feet to the 4 o'clock position.
3). Montana 180g LBT, 180GR, LFN-GC in front of 12.9g AA#9, CCI300 spark plugs. Brass ends up @ 12-15 feet to the 4 o'clock position.

Wonder if they made a switch. The wolf 20lb spring was the same wire diameter but almost 1.5" longer than the factory spring in my XDM.  I was actually worried that the slide would not be able to go far enough back. If you have a set of calipers handy post up the wire dia, spring dia and overall length. I will measure my stock spring when i get back home, can also provide Wolff 18, 20 and 22lb data as I bought the whole tuning kit.
