That whole book was screwed up. I shot some mid range loads for my .270 and had shiny case heads, split necks, massive recoil, large fire balls and horrible shot groups. A .357 load locked up my King Cobra. I don't trust the loads out of that book. My Nosler load book has never let me down.

What is your opinion of the Glock Model 40. Saw one at Cabela's and now I'm interested.

I put meat in my freezer with Trijicon TFO sights last November. No complaints here.

10mm Hunting / First pistol kill
January 26 2018 09:27:07 PM MST
This past November I dropped a West Texas Whitetail doe with my Gen 2 Glock 20. I used factory Honady 200 grn XTP
That I had since the 90's. The shot was 16 yards away and it blew through both shoulders and cut through the outer layer of the heart. One of the lungs looked like black jello. Now if I can get the picture to download I can show it off. My first pistol hunt was awesome. The deer made it twenty yards before she fell under a Cedar tree and now I'm hooked on 10mm hunting. Time to experiment with hand loads.

I agree with sep. It could be the ammo. You may have to experiment a little to see what the barrel likes in your pistol. Different brands and hand loads might make a difference.

Removed the extractor and cleaned it. Also cleaned the entire slide inside and out. The dents were smaller afterwards. Maybe it is something else.

General Discussion / Re: 10mm stops a bear

Great article. I once received an E-Mail that looked like a legit advertisement from Beretta. It Showed a .25 ACP pistol and it had The Beretta logo behind it. There was a letter enclosed that told a story from a hiker that used the pistol to save his life. In the letter he describes how he used the pistol to defend himself from a bear attack. As I read I found out it was a total and complete gag. The end of the letter describes how he shot his girlfriend in the knee cap and ran from the bear! He then thanked Beretta for making such an accurate, reliable and dependable product and how much he appreciated his girlfriend for sacrificing herself for him. I laughed my butt off.

I was wandering how the story ended. Did you ever get it out?

Watched the video and he used a Glock 21 in 45 ACP. He has a hunting buddy from GA. that uses the 20 in 10mm on a deer.

10mm Hunting / Re: best ammo for bear protection?
May 23 2016 09:20:15 AM MDT
I read about a Danish military scouting unit that patrols above the artic circle in Greenland. They carry Lee Infields that are re-chambered for 30-06 because modern service rifles have difficulty in the extreme cold. They also carry the Glock 20 as their side arm because it will work in the extreme cold and they wanted it to defend from polar bear attacks. Not sure what load they carry but, they wanted a semi-auto for bear attacks. The ammo companies recommend 200 grain FMJ for bear country.

Gunsmithing / Dented brass

My Glock 20 G2 ejects brass with distinctive dents. The dents are right below where the bottom of the bullet would be. It does not matter if they are hand loads or factory ammo. Does this happen to anyone else? The dents are still a little bit visible after the brass is re-sized. Is this a problem? I have not have one split on me yet however, it still concerns me.

I tried to attach a photo but, the size of the picture is too large. Anyway, I use a IWB rig from El Paso Saddlery. They have been making leather holsters in El Paso since 1889. They call it the "Covert Force" holster. It goes inside your waist band and the leather loop attaches to your belt. This feature allows the pistol to move with your body as you move. It has a rough outer leather shell that grips my shirt keeps my shirt from coming untucked. You can check it out on epsaddlery.com

General Discussion / Re: The future of 10mm
May 15 2016 09:45:48 PM MDT
I bought my Glock 20 twenty years ago and I was told back then that the 10 MM was a "dead" cartridge. I have noticed that the pistol manufacturers are marketing their guns for hunters and the reloading supplies for the round are in high demand. The 10mm is still around no matter how hard the critics try to say that the round is obsolete. The forum has motivated me to get my Dillon running again. Thanks for the input you guys have been putting out. Now I am considering a newer barrel and a spring/guide rod combo. My gen2 barrel is not supported like the newer ones. I want to branch out of my HS6 loads and try something with more oomf. Any suggestions?

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Blue Dot shortage?

I picked up two pounds at the Ft. Bliss Rod & Gun Club. If you happen to be in the El Paso Area you can go there at pick some up. The club is open to the public. It is on a military reservation so there is no state sales tax. They just opened a new case in front of me when I went there to get powder. Lots of Longshot and Unique also.

General Discussion / Re: Introductions

My Name is Allen. I am 46 years old and I live in El Paso. I work as a supervisor in a county jail facility. I'm an Army vet and I was in combat during "Operation Just Cause" in Panama. I hunt, fish, reload and shoot. Of all of my firearms the Glock 20 I bought back in the mid 1990's is my favorite. It is the gun that got me into reloading. Always looking for new info and tips with reloading.
