Ammo is still expensive compared to 9MM and not as easy to find as .45ACP, but there has been more offerings such as the Sig and Grand Power. The one thing that has changed since introduction is the intended use. If I recall, originally it was touted only as a more powerful personal defence round. The recognition that it was suitable for hunting small and medium game and for general backwood protection is relatively recent, and there is a good market for that.
