Well, I am going hog hunting later this week, hope to get a chance at close range with the Dan Wesson 10mm. I shot some of the Federal Trophy Bonded 180gr bullets, tonight.
I ran about 40 rounds through it, 1 shot at a time out to about 50yds. I was loosing the light, as the sun was going down, but all in all, I believe I can make a good hit out to about 50yds.
But I hope to get a shot a lot closer. My gun ran fine , no malfunctions, but it never has malfunctioned on me, regardless of the ammo, and recoil didn't seem that bad. So, we will  see.

I just ordered some of the Federal Trophy Bonded 180gr loads for an up coming hog hunt.
I hope they will work all right in my older Dan Wesson 1911, pre-ramped barrel gun,  similar of course to the Colt Delta Elite.

I have not shot a hog before, and I hear how tough they are, but is not what I  would call real wild boar hunting we will be doing. We will probably be shooting 100 to 150lb hogs,  maybe smaller. I know many say to shoot behind the ear, but I like the idea of the shoulder shot, but have been told it takes a really good bullet to get through the shoulder, because of the grizzle plate or whatever.

Has anyone taken a hog on here with this factory load? About all  I have killed with my 10mm has been dispatching a couple of downed cows we gave up on, and I felt it did a really  good job on those.

Hopefully, these loads won't be too hot for the unsupported chamber of my Dan Wesson Razorback.

All comments welcome.

Intercooler;

How fast can I safely push a 175 to 180gr bullet out  of my older Dan Wesson with the unsupported chamber? And how fast could that same bullet be pushed out of it if it had a replacement barrel with fully supported chamber? I just wanted to know the spread or difference.

I am not going to hot rod it. I don't think my wrist will take the snap of the really hot 10mm's anyway, if I need that kind of power, I will just go on to one of Super Blackhawks. But I am looking forward to shooting the Dan Wesson, and I figure I can take down about anything I am inclined to shoot with the 10mm anyway using more or less standard loads.

I ended up buying the Dan Wesson Razorback, from a friend. It's 148 out  of the original 150. I shot it a few rounds tonight, and it's very accurate, and has the original match barrel, not ramped. It also has a Bo Mar style adjustable rear sight, which I wanted for on this gun. Being left handed I will probably add an ambi-safety, and I usually always switch out to an arched mainspring housing and short trigger.

I think I will try to buy it, if he will sell it.

I have never owned a 10 mm, but lately I have been looking at a friends DW  Razorback. It's one of the original 1 of 150 in 10 mm  with an adjustable rear sight. I can see there are a lot of Glock fans on here, and I own several Glocks also, but I am really more interested in the 1911 platform for a 10 mm.

Anyway, how does the DW Razorback stack up in the world of 10 mm's? Or even the Delta Elite? I mean I like Colts, but in 10 mm I have always heard that there are better choices, which the Razorback looks like it might be. Now don't get me wrong I am not trying to start a debate of any kind, I just figured you guys would have a pretty good idea as to potential pluses or minuses.

Bottom line, I guess  my question is do you think the original (pre-CZ) Razorback is a solid platform for the 10 mm? Are there any known issues to speak of? I will probably use it for hunting of deer and hogs, coyotes, and probably even carry it sometimes instead of one of my 4 or 5 inch Colt 45's. It won't have  to hold up to an excessive amount of shooting, but it will get used and carried and reliability and accuracy is very important to me. I won't be shooting extremely hot loads in it, but I will be using full power factory hunting loads, or fairly strong handloads.

General Discussion / Re: Introductions

Hello, I am just another gun guy, love to  hunt and shoot all kinds of small arms. I work construction, and raise cattle, I used to shoot various pistol competitions when I was younger. I have shot IDPA, IPSC, NRA Hunter Silhouette, among other things, but now days, I just shoot mostly for the fun of it, nothing serious, beyond some hunting, and CCW.

I own several Glock 40's, and my favorite semi-auto is the 1911, but I have never owned a 10 mm. I have been mildly interested in the big 10, but just never jumped off an bought one. That's why I am here, to read about the Ten, and maybe get one. I am considering a DW Razorback, because I handled one recently and being a 1911 guy, I appreciated the quality of the piece, and thought I might want one for the times when  I wanted a little more power then the 45ACP, but didn't want pack a Super Blackhawk.
