Reloading / Re: 41AE reloads

I never had any problem loading for my 41AE using a set of Lee dies.  Though I don't really shoot it much anymore, my gun is an old small frame Tanfoglio.

General Discussion / Re: New 10mm LONG!

It will be interesting if they can make it feed from a double stack AR-15 magazine.  In my experience with the 10mm Magnum in the AR, it was less than good.

I have an 8" barrel in my 45 ACP Hardballer Longslide, but I haven't chrono'd it.  A 9" barrel is going to stick out two inches past the slide and look a bit goofy, but it wouldn't stop me.

It will look similar to this pic.

VV stopped making N105 last summer, unfortunately.  If you find any, load up.

I'm not sure that is correct.  VV is still showing N-105 on their website, but oddly, under the 300 series powders, not the 100 series.

VV N105 is my preferred powder.

Too much lot to lot variation with Blue Dot in the old days.
You old guys will remember the term "Super Face".  Caused by Blue Dot lot-to-lot variation.
Maybe they have it fixed now, but I'll just pass.

I collect a lot of odd stuff, but I have never seen one of those.
It doesn't take much to hold the bolt closed on a 22 rimfire auto.
With a Ruger Mark 2/3/4 pistol, you can just hold your thumb up on the back of the bolt to keep it closed.

10mm Hunting / Re: Suggestions for 1911 sights for hunting

I prefer big blocky Bullseye type sights on my hunting pistols.  Like a big Bomar, LPA, etc.
I have trouble with extended range precision when the front sight is round, or has dots on it, or anything goofy.
I have killed hogs out to 85 yards offhand using Bullseye type sights.

Consider...The vaunted 44 Magnum is a 36K PSI (piezo) cartridge (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.44_Magnum).  Yet, AFAIK it is only offered in semi-auto handguns that are gas operated, not recoil operated.  The 460 Rowland and 10mm auto kinda define the upper limits for a recoil operated gun at about 700-750 lb-ft of energy.

The Mark IV LAR Grizzly is chambered in 44 Magnum.  There was also a conversion kit for the Mark V to fire 44 Magnum.

Handguns / Re: Recoil Springs for LAR Grizzlies

If you run a bunch high pressure ammo through a Grizzly, you will deform the recoil spring guide so bad, the slide will bind up.
The flat part of it gets pinched between the slide and frame at full recoil and batters the hell out of it.
Oh, and don't try one of those plastic/rubber buffers.....one shot will blow the thing into little pieces that you will be picking out of your gun for a week.

Also, the Grizzly doesn't have a fully supported chamber, so if you run the pressure up enough, you can blow out a case, destroy your magazine, and damage your grips.

I know all of the above unfortunately from personal experience.

"JURRAS" wouldn't actually be a legal Serial Number, per ATF.  They put out a letter on it awhile back stating that at least one digit must be a numeral.

I'm not sure of the spring weights, but the original springs had coils dyed to identify each caliber as follows.

White - 50AE
Gold - 44 Mag/45 WinMag
Purple - 357 Mag
Red - 45 ACP
Blue - 357/45 WinMag
Green - 10mm
Unknown - 9mm WinMag

However, I have seen some factory conversion kits where the springs had no color identifier on them.

At one time, I had two 41 Auto Mag barrels.  One was an El Monte Jurras logo'd 6.5" vent rib 41 JMP.
The other was an 8" Covina non-vent barrel marked 41 AMP instead of JMP.  The head space was WAY different between the two barrels....so much so, that I had to use two different sets of dies to load for them even though I have been told that both versions should be the same.
