So there are no Car accidents, just negligent driving ?  I think you guys are debating the definition of the word accident.  ;)

Gear/Equipment / Delta point 2
March 05 2014 12:50:53 AM MST
Anyone had a chance to see a new Deltapoint 2 yet ? It's the new version from the Leupold guys.

I have been morning the loss of my Burris fast fire III that couldn't handle the wild slide ride of the 10mm, so I was considering replacing it with a deltapoint (which will fit my existing mount).  I'll wait for the DP version 2 if someone can confirm if the mounting holes are the same.

Factory Ammo / Re: 38 super

I have one based on a Springfield 1911. Very sweet round with more power than the 9mm. A physically longer case by a few mm and straight walled instead of tapered gives greater powder capacity.
Popular in ISPC for many years and still in use today. I use mine for short distance ~100yrd metallic silhouettes and it's awesome.

Gear/Equipment / Re: Burris Fastfire III - Failure

I have my fingers crossed for you Six 10's

My recommendation at the first sign of a symptom that looks like battery failure, check the battery is ok and if so send to Burris.  It's easier for you as you're US based, where I am in Australia.
Also be very very careful with the battery cover lid, its a shit design and the threads are just asking to be crossed and stripped.

When it worked it rocked...

Nice work Yondo.  I have been using these for years and had great accuracy and very little leading. They are not perfect and I still get some leading, particularly in the compenstated guns.
I'd imagine as the process becomes accepted amongst your current bullet manufacturers they will become the norm.

How about some accuracy testing ?

Gear/Equipment / Burris Fastfire III - Failure
November 25 2013 06:05:24 PM MST
It's been just over a year of owning the Burris fastfire III mounted to the STI Perfect Ten slide.  It's like the fastfire was preprogrammed to fail just after the warrenty period expired... NO red dot anymore, tried new battery, contact clean etc.. it's dead.

I bought it on line direct from the US so emailed Burris customer service, nothing, not even a sorry it's outside the warrenty period.  I was always sceptical that the optics would handle being beaten up on the 10mm slide ride, and proved myself correct.  :'( What a waste of money and time.

Back to irons or I might consider a frame mounted optic, but never another Burris product. >:(

Range reports / Re: 10mm Long range accuracy

Hey Bozz, yeah knocking around still. Haven't shot the 10 in  awhile as I got a 1970 S&W model 41 that rocks, plus a new addition to the family has kept me home bound and up to my ears in nappies and bottles.

From memory the load was 180TC coated lead using a stout load of blue dot.  ::) In terms of hold over, I was using the red dot (burris fastfireIII) so I just wound it up till it was on paper so I couldn't tell you, but expect it's dropping in the order of 6-9 inches from my 25 yrd zero.

Hey ! That is interesting that you guys like the norma ammo so much. I bought about 8 boxes of it from a guy over here really just for the brass...

It's much softer shooting than you would expect. :)

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Perfect 10 or Hunter
March 18 2013 01:23:21 AM MDT
Congrat's you will love it no doubt.  Make sure you give it a good couple of hundred rounds to loosen up when you first get it. Mine was a tight as a fishes bum when I first got it.

Redline, is there consumer protection rights that would normally apply here over and above the warrenty period ? I would have thought that a defective (Manufacturing fault) product would be covered under the equiliviant trade practices act and no amount of shooting would make the barrell look like yours.

Anyway good pick up and camera work...I am off to check my barrel...

Perfect Ten all the way ! It's awesome in every way.  I needed to shoot 500 rounds for it to loosen up and it's fussy on oal but such a great gun to shoot at the metallic sillywets :D

Check my other posts for pics.

General Discussion / Re: Connecticut School Shooting

My heart breaks everytime I think about what happened at that school. I don't know the answer but cannot agree more that something must be done to stop the violence that seems to be increasing around the globe.

In Australia we have to jump through some crazy hoops and are restricted in what we can own, in my opinion it's too restrictive but there are elements that make sense. As a father I have always paid particular attention to the storage of my firearms and ammunition so that no one else can access them. Whilst I don't support restrictions on types of guns, I do support efforts to ensure that only those eligable to own them have access to them.

Lock up your guns people!

1. I have never had luck with berrys but the 165grn rainers work well with 10.4grns of BD in my pistol.

2. Whatever feeds in your pistol I guess

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Progressive Presses

I have used a Hornady Progressive Press for well over 25 years.  I now have 2 as I like to have one set up for rifle and one for 45Colt.
I keep hearing that the dillon is a far superior press and have purchased a few over time when I have found them at a bargain price. The SDB is only a 4 station press and you cannot use any other dies than dillon.

Not true I use Lee crimp dies on my Dillon. I would say at least 2/3rds of my dies are not Dillon.

I think the Square Deal Dillon uses a different thread size to normal dies, so you are limited to the Dillon versions.  You can use other dies in the 550,650 and 1050 presses.

The 550 does rely on the user to move the shell plate and it could result in a double charge, but if you short stroke the 650 or any other press you can get a double charge also. As with all reloading you need to pay attention.
