10mm semi-auto handguns / Custom Dan Wesson V10
September 13 2016 07:50:09 PM MDT
I'd been looking for a Commander sized 10mm for a while.
Called Up Keith at Dan Wesson and ordered this one back in February.
Tonight I got to pick it up.
Can't wait to get to the range.

Well yesterday I picked up my long awaited 10mm CQB.
For the most part I'm very happy with the pistol. It's fit an finish are outstanding.
The one thing I was totally un-prepared for was the seriously creepy trigger.
Both my dealer and gunsmith and I agree that this is one that slipped through the cracks.
Not to worry though, I had purchased a WC Long match trigger along with some CocoBolo WC grips and I took care of the creepy trigger pull while installing them.  Now it a clean crisp 4.25#'s
Now to get to the range.

I don't exactly know how much worse this old 1911 Addict could get, but it has happened.
About a year ago I came down with the Dan Wesson flu that ended up with me buying 4 Bobtail's, A Duty Treat Valor, and a custom Silverback in 10mm.  That last one is the problem.  It was my first 10mm I'd ever owned.
That Silverback has been perfect on the range thru 300 rounds, mostly my own hand loads and offerings from Underwood and Buffalo Bore.  I really love this mild to wild 10mm cartridge.
IMHO, It may be the most perfect 1911 round ever conceived. It's hard hitting if you want it to be, accurate, reliable.

Since then I converted my Glock30sf, and bought a Glock 40 and a G20 top end.
Yet my fever continued to rage!
So being a Bobtailed Commander as well as a 10mm fan, it didn't take long for me to ask myself!
What if.... So I started looking for someone to build me a 10mm Commander.
Wow... Did I hit brick wall. All the folks from WC, NHC, EB, LB, GI said no.
Only Dan Wesson and Fusion said they would build a 10mm Commander, so being a Big Dan Wesson fan already, along with the hit and miss reports I've read about Fusion, I contacted Keith at DW and ordered a Duty Treated Custom 10mm VBob.  I'm about 4 weeks into an 8-12 week wait.

But wait there is more.
As an addict I was browsing around Gunslingers I came across a WC CQB in 10mm.
That lead to contacting George, and quotes, and bla, bla bla!
So on layaway it went.  And the waiting will be tough.
So hopefully this fever is about to break, at least for a bit.

Here is a sneak peak of the CQB George is holding for me

Handguns / Glock 10mm to 38super conversion???
November 12 2015 07:52:54 PM MST
I have been a long time 1911 and Glock fan where in my world the .45 ACP reigned supreme.
I recently started expanding my 1911 collection to include Dan Wesson offerings in both 10mm and 38 Super, and thought if it was good enough for my 1911s it should be great in a Glock as well.

The first thing I did was to buy a Storm Lake 10mm conversion barrel for my G30SF.
Then I bought a gen4 G20 complete upper for my G41 then ultimately purchased a Glock 40mos.

With my Glock 10mm itch scratched I began looking for what was available in 38 Super.
I quickly learned of only 1 choice.  My search lead to a Lone Wolf 6" G40 conversion barrel in 38 Super.

I ordered it and I just installed into my G40 slide.  I know, crazy right.  It fit perfectly.
Then I loaded up a G40 10mm mag with 17 rounds and cycled them through this set up with only one issue.
The slide locked open with one round left in the mag.

So it will be off to the range to test this converted Beast to see how it runs.

Anyone ever done this before?  If so, how did it run?
What problems should I expect?
Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I bought the G30 sf when I got my CCL. I reload and have Owned an early G21 since the early Ninties.
So the G30 made sense.  I recently sold my old G21 and replaced it with a Gen4 G41.  I stay with the 45 caliber Glocks due to their  superior accuracy.

I'm also a 1911 fan and bought a custom Dan Wesson Silverback in 10mm.
Wow.  What an awesome round.  Next I bought a G20 upper for the G41 frame and then I bought a Storm Lake 10mm conversion barrel for my 30sf.

Bottom line is my Glock 30sf with a 10mm barrel is now in my EDC rotation along with a 1911 Les Baer Commanche and a Ruger LCR.

My advice is to buy a Gen 4 G30 then buy a 10mm conversion barrel and have the best of both worlds.
Why. Cause you can't convert a 29 to 45acp without buying a complete upper assembly.
But if you choose to go with a G29 you will be both well armed and happy man.

You'll like the G40, (though the top does not exchange with the G20). You'll find the G40 is the "cat's pajamas" when it comes to working in the field with a semiautomatic pistol. The only thing that could improve the handgun would be a 7" custom Glock barrel with polygonal rifling. this would increase your velocity while making the pistol even more muzzle heavy. This is not altogether negative as it tends to further mitigate recoil, permitting you to quickly return to your target.

Polygonal rifling "squeezes" every bit of velocity from your ammnuition,  increasing range, energy and flattening trajectory.

Enjoy your new Glock. (I'm certain you will).

Thanks.  However the gen 4 G20 slide is completely compatible with both the gen4 G40 and G41 frames.

Why wouldn't it exchange? I put a G 20 topend  on my G 40 frame just fine.
It was my understanding that the frame is the same.
You are correct Sstewart!
I used my Glock 20 top end on my gen4 Glock 41 last week at the range.
It worked perfectly.

The G40 and th G41 Frames are Identical.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Got the 10mm Glock Bug!
October 19 2015 10:19:12 PM MDT
Wow
After Shooting my Dan Wesson Custom 10mm Silverback this fall, I really got the bug.
Being a Glock fan as well, I bought a Gen 4 G20 top end for my G41 and a SL 10mm conversion barrel for my G30sf which after shooting has been splitting time with my 1911's as my EDC.
Then as fate would have it, I read about the G40 MOS.  And I began to search.
Glock 40's are kinda hard to find.  However I won one on GB for free shipping and no Cc fees.
Better start reloading some max loads.
Well, I picked it up tonight.
What a beast!
Can't wait to give it a try.
Anyone here have both a G20 and/or a G40?
Opinions would be appreciated !

Very nice pistol. I've been thinkin hard about gettin one myself. Does their custom shop have a canned list of what they will do to a pistol or will they do pretty much whatever you want?

There's also an article on the Silverback in the Oct/Nov issue of Guns & Ammo Handguns.
Yeah. It's more limited than most of your Semi custom makers but more than Les Baer.
If you ask for caliber changes, and changes to items they offer on other stock guns, they will accommodate you.
But everything they make is stainless, so if your looking for a carbon steel pistol you must look elsewhere.

You should contact Keith at Dan Wesson to work up a custom order.

Very nice. Reliable I assume, since no mention to the contrary.
Thankyou.
I've only had an opportunity to put 100 hand loads and 50 Federal rounds thru it but so far it has been perfect.

Late in the spring I somehow managed to get a custom Silverback under the wire. DW cut off new Custom orders for a while, till they can catch up on production demands.
Ordered it on May 1st. FFL received it June 25. So it only took 7 weeks or so

Order sheet is minimal.
Standard 10mm Silverback all duty treat frame and slide with flush and reverse crown barrel.
(Not a fan of two tone guns)

The Gun seems to be exactly as ordered. Even came with a somewhat blended thumb safety.
The Trigger is crisp, clean and just over 4 #'s.

Many thanks to Keith and all the folks at Dan Wesson.

General Discussion / Re: Introductions
October 16 2015 08:34:36 PM MDT
FNG from the people's Republic of Nothern Obamastan, otherwise known as Illinois.
I've been around firearms longer than I'd like to admit.  I've competed, hunted, collected and do lots of rolling my own.  That being said I'm a newbie to the 10mm.  I guess I've resisted everything but 9mm and 45 for many reasons none of which are worth talking about here.
I bought a Dan Wesson  Custom Silverback in 10mm and that's all it took.  Now I have a G40 MOS on its way to my dealer, a G20 gen 4 Slide and a gen 30 sf with a SL conversion barrel.
My first hand loads were max loads with plated Berrys 180 gr flat points, and some Speer Gold dots.
And that's all it took.   I'm hooked!

I'm glad you good folks allowed me to tag along.  I hope to learn a lot.
