I'll tell you what I tell all first time 1911 owners - Congratulations on your new favorite handgun.

Would any of you Delta Elite owners be wiling to take a pic of your barrel chamber with a case in the chamber so I can compare your case support with my new Fusion 10mm?

Fusion seems to offer all three as an option - Standard, Wilson, and Clark.

IIRC the Delta Elite is standard, as you would expect from a Colt, and is a tad notorious because it leaves a portion of the case unsupported.

So Neal, did you order your Fusion with a Wilson or a Clark ramp?

And for those of you "in the know" is either Wilson or Clark better?

Bud's Gun Shop in TN carries them

Much like most other guns, they're out of stock.

And why, on this of all forums, is it automatically assumed this will be for hunting?

Honestly this will just be a range toy.   Maybe bowling pins.  And if I grimace and mutter "I AM the law!" while shooting that will mean nothing.

I agree that it's a training issue. However, my natural grip allows me to index the sights to the target with every pistol - 1911, Sig 226, Sig 320, Beretta 92, H&K USP, Walther PPQ, literally every pistol I have tried EXCEPT Glock.

The Glock is a great platform with a lot of virtues. It's not magic like some people make it out to be. There are a lot of other options out there for every application - duty, compilation, whatever.  The only place where there isn't another ready alternative is when it comes to a 6 inch double stack 10mm.

Word on the street is the P320 10mm  is coming.  I'll probably just hold out for that.

Good stuff, to be sure, but Fusion Firearms can build me one to spec for $300 less.

One of the things on my checklist was double stacks magazines, so even though I'm a 1911 guy I was shying away from 1911s.  Plus that TRP uses bull barrel& 2-piece guide rod.  The 1911 snob in me has me wrinkling my nose at that.

I was looking at the Remington R1 Hunter.  It has a proper bushing & solid full length guide rod, but it seemed to have some reliability issues.

I was looking hard at a Frankenglock built off of a Timberwolf frame & Lone Wolf 6" slide & barrel.  But I've been watching SevenStar's "Not A Glock 20" P80 build videos, and he had a BUNCH of issues, and it took him quite a while to get his pistol to function reliably.

I'm thinking of spending the extra money and having Fusion Firearms build me a 6" 10mm 1911.  It won't be double stack, but otherwise it hits my checklist.

I need to do some research on the EAA Witness Hunter.

Yes they do.  I think it's just a 5".

Thinking of getting a 10mm. To get best performance I want a pistol with a 6" barrel.   There aren't a lot of options (that I find suitable).  Glock 40 (I can't stand the grip angle on the Glock), EAA Witness Hunter, and a few 6" 1911s (single stack magazines).   There're are/were a few double stack 1911s, but the only one in current production That I know of is the Rock Island (non-standard design that annoys the hell out of the 1911 purist in me.

Are there any 6" 10mm semis I'm overlooking?

The long slide version, that's five inches, right?  What is the standard barrel length?

What is cost & availability of magazines like?

"I put in a flat bottom firing pin stop"

What firing pin stop, and where did you get it?

75¢ for a piece of 9mm...unbelievable. I just LOVE the gun rag experts and you tube jockeys who have been preaching the wisdom of sticking with NATO calibers, because there will always be plenty of ammo for them...

I guess another viewpoint is that if you've got $1800 to spend on a handgun, you can probably come up with a few hundred bucks for a reloading press. Roll your own 10mm for fifteen-cents a round.

I've been actively resisting reloading since the '80s.

So been sorely tempted to pick up a 10mm, and looking at various ones.  Then I googled what 10mm ammo is currently selling at.

I was reminded why I don't shoot my .45 ACP 1911 much anymore, and why my last pistol purchase was a P320 in 9mm.

I can see my way clear to paying $1800 for a pistol I know I'm going to love, but if ammo is over .75 cents a round I won't ever shoot it.

Thanks for all your help, guys.  See you around the range.  I'll be the guy shooting mouse farts.
