I generally shoot in the second band.   I do make and have fired factory ammo in the last band.  I don't find that enjoyable or necessary for shooting at targets.  When I go hunting I shoot that and all of the practice I got with the 180gr at 1100 FPS makes sure that 1300FPS strike hits home.

I have two, an adjustable sight early model and a fixed sight later model with the black hammer and trigger.   When I start to slip the mortal coil, these will be the last two guns I will own.

The last thing we need in the ranks in times like this are high-profile Quislings.

The load inside the SwampFox 40S&W cartridges was 2.2 grains over the max loading listed at Hodgdon's site...
[
Hodgdon shows load data 40S&W 165 grain
165 GR. SIE JHP 0.400" Hodgdon Longshot COAL 1.125" listed max powder 7.8 grains, velocity 1185 fps, 33,400 PSI

The 40S&W just doesent have much room for that much more powder to have safe pressures...
Those of you who have some of SwamFox's ammo, you may want to get with someone who is a handloader to get a better understanding of what you have for safety sake!
Mike Willard is no longer with us (R.I.P.) to make things right.

Here is the run down of all 35 SwampFox Ammo 40S&W cartridges loaded with Hodgdon's LongShot powder, as pulled-down from Deadandgone box.  Once again we wish to thank him for sharing so we can learn for this incident!

All loads were checked on two scales, the loads at 09.9 grains were for my balance beam RCBS 5-10 Scale these would have shown 09.8 on the digital because it only shows even numbers in the tenths column...

So what we are saying here is that the max book load is 7.8 grains in this case/bullet combo but not one of these was less than 1 grain over that max?   I'll bet they perform great, until they don't and when they don't they leave you with a paperweight or injuries...  not good.

I just picked up a Glock 20SF and I have a question on handloaded ammo...If this really should be in handloading.. Sorry.

If I handload with a standard book load and use new brass and jacketed bullets I should be OK right?  (180gr FMJ Speer/8.2gr Power Pistol/Starline brass)  It's when using anything other than jacketed and brass that has been used before, the trouble starts... I'm going to get a Lone Wolf barrel but I haven't done it yet.   My guess is that (a LW Barrel) would make me OK with plated bullets and with once-fired brass...

Do my assumptions seem incorrect?

I reload 180gr plated Berry's or Rainier over 8.2gr of Power Pistol for a standard plinking load for my Smith And Wesson 1006s and I've never had any hint of any problem even with brass used 3/4 times.

Thanks.

The 3rd gen S&W's have a fixed nylon bushing in the slide (replaceable) and their barrels have the ball machined on the end of the barrel that holds center of the bushing!   Those bull barrels are cut to replace the entire bushing therefore bushingless.

The bushing on the Smith isn't nylon..It's stainless.    It's replaceable but technically only by a Smith and Wesson armorer.

I buy American first always.  I obviously can't buy American 100% of the time but I use a critera.

American first
American based second (even if the product itself is imported)
Chinese last.

If S&W made an M&P in 10mm you would literally be able to hear me buying it.
