Reloading / Testing SR primers vs SP primers
May 16 2023 10:42:28 AM MDT
Since I have an abundance (no, none for sale) of Rem 7 1/2 SR primers and have no longarm to use them in, I did comparisons in 38 sp and 9mm. Testing was done at 50ft at the North Olmsted (Ohio) Sportsman Club indoor range.
For 38sp I used a S&W M586 and a S&W M36, For 9mm I used a Beretta 92FS, S&W 3914, & S&W 3913.
Test loads were compared to my standard loads for felt recoil and paper impact location.
In both catergories, felt recoil and paper impact location was too similar to standard loads.
Chronograph testing would have been nice but probably not necessary because point of impacts didn't change as if they might have had velocities been different.

Updated current picture. Brass in the trays on bench are 38sp segregated by headstamp which is the current project.
Bottom shelving row are misc. related to reloading, row above that are die sets.
Bench corner is chamfering and length trimming, far end is SS pin rotary tumbler.

Rifles / Re: Ruger buys Marlin

Once production meets demands, retail prices will start to drop. Ruger Marlins MSRP on those is 1239-1479 depending on specific model. The local Fin Feather Fur stores here in northern Ohio typically discounts by $300 for that 1239-1479 price range, so we'll see once they start to become available.

4227 would have been used for 44 Mag. Hodgdon lists loads for 4227 and 125gr.

Scrapped furnaces and ducting could provide large/flexible/lightweight pieces of sheet metal.

With a rolled upward edge to keep it from spilling into your lap.

Do a google search for side mounted casters, there are some interesting ones.

How's the bench coming along ?

It appears flimsy.

in the respect that eventually it'll develop a wobble. Needs some triangular cross 2x4s'.

Is that bench assembled with nails or screws ?

I built a somewhat portable casting bench / table today that can be used in the backyard in the warm months, and in the garage for winter use.
"it stinkin weighs a ton"

Put casters on it. Two fixed on one end, two swivelable on the other end. Harbor freight has 2" casters.

I started wet SS pin tumbling in 2015 and never went back to the dry method.
