Mr Sneed, I'm not too sure of your reply, but I assume you have had a bad experience. With my current experience level I think I would still cjoose the bad trial.  Ther are always those situations where there is no good answer or outcome.

There is a simple but pithy statement regarding carry.Going beyond the need for personal and family safety/defense. It goes like"I'd rather have a bad legal trial than a nice funeral"..

General Discussion / Re: Just so you know...10mm brass

i regularly loose about 30% of my brass. i think it burns up on reentry. My G20 only tossed full strentgh loads about15', while the P220 tosses 25-30", accompanied by 30% brass loss.I think I need to get a 48 or 50# recoil spring.

I just hope that the large number of recent gun buyers, i assume some were liberals, will stand up when the Biden gun control edicts get into circulation. that and the Senate remains in sensible hands.

is this a heavier spring or just a replacement spring.

Gunsmithing / recoil springs for P220
October 23 2020 07:59:15 PM MDT
in reference to the distance brass being tossed by my P220, I beleive the first step may be toreplace the stock recoil spring with a more robust one. Can some one point me in the right direction to find one for the P220-10mm. Wolff does not list one for this model. Any other reliable sources?

...But factory loads I've tried pass what I'm seeing published for handloads. 220gr Underwood @1170 fps (1200 from a 5" auto claimed) and Doubletap 230gr @1045 fps (1100 from 5" auto claimed)...

That's pretty typical. Couple of things... DT tends to exaggerate their velocity...A LOT. Underwood usually comes in above stated velocity, though in the case of their 220 grain 10mm load, pull downs have shown that the bullet doesn't actually weigh a full 220 grains, while my bullets from the same supplier weigh over 220 grains.

Also, you're never going to get pistol velocity out of a revolver because of the gas escape between the cylinder and the barrel. How much velocity you loose is dependent on the particular gun and even the particular chamber, but a revolver will never equal a pistol for velocity if all other factors are equal.

Loading long might work out well...might not, depending on how far you push it. One thing to keep in mind is that the longer and hotter you load, the more likely you'll encounter bullet-pull. Bullet-pull will freeze a revolver up solid, and it takes time and shop tools to make it spin again. No velocity gains will ever compensate for that fatal flaw.

There are cases and occasions where comparable barrel lengths will produce velocities contrary to intuition. I had recently seen data supporting that, I believe bried somewhere in 10mm-. I couldnt find it this AM, but will see if I can drag it back into the light of day.  Poster had like 50FPS higher vel on some loads in the revolver, but not all of course.

Knocking the dust off this one, I just have to wonder, could there be some debis or other form of foreign material interferimng with the function of the latch assembly. Coul explain the mysterious appearance of the malfunction.

If it is the forward portion of the case, the staight walls of the case, push a tight fitting cleaning brush into the case without getting it into the bore . Then just pull it back. The brass bristles will bend back when inserted and lock into the case walls when you pull back.

What are potential remedies for the P220 balistic brass issue. I get a regular workout tracking down brass from my P220 Elite 5".25 to 30 feet seems to be the norm for "full power" 180 grain loads. I seem to have a brass attrition rate of about 10% due to AWOL bfrass.
Wolff doesnot list springs for the %" Elite. Are ther other sources?

Im carrying because our world has changed so greatly over the past decade. I have  a FL permit which is not accepted in our "may not issue"(not the way its written but the way it is) state. Our area is primarily rurel but the 3 municipalities in the area have an aggregate  violent episode rate per100K greater than Baltimore, MD.
Feeling the same need to have a fire extinguisher, or health insurance or etc I do carry now in the time of blue politics and covid.
I also decline being a victim.

It is only a potential threat in the same way that any person posessing any tool for any reason is a potential threat. I personally would not view an openly carried rifle as any more inherently threatening than openly driving an SUV or openly carrying a chainsaw.

Would I be paying attention? Undoubtedly. But I would have no more reason to believe that the man in your school example was there to attack the school than to believe he was there to pick up his daughter after classes for a trip to the range.

Again, this is on principle in a healthy society. Clearly we don't live in a healthy society, but your position is clearly based in the kind of irrational fear that drives so much of the cultural division in this country. It isn't true that police are out hunting black people, just as it isn't true that someone open carrying a rifle and gear should be assumed to be an attacker. Perpetuating this fear as you appear intent on isn't helpful, and won't result in healing the divisions that do exist. The reality is your point of view is much more in line with views that will result in the potential future consequences you're cautioning against.

But, we're probably going to have to agree to disagree.

Please note my post in regards to the cultural perceptions of our current demographics. Those of us who have used firearms in common sporting or domestic manners dont have raised pulses under most presentations, HOWEVER, those individuals who rarely venture out of doors, think eating meat is a sin, think meat comes from a machine wrapped in plastic, think due to movies and TV guns are only for death and destruction and multiple etc's. These people are threatened, intimidted and repulsed by the public display(brandishment) of firearms. In fact therein lies a major problem, that bubble has to be broken but not by threat.
