Check out this thread here. http://10mm-firearms.com/reloading-10mm-ammo/montana-200gr-wfnpb/

I love these Montana bullets.  I just loaded up my last 100 of them yesterday in fact.  I guess its time to put in another order.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Montana 200gr wfnpb

Spudmiester, I would be afraid to shoot your loads through my gun!  :)) The other side of the coin is you would probably be disappointed with my loads in your gun.  You are certainly right about loads being safe for one may not be safe for another. For example, Buffalo Bore 220 grain Hardcast will blow the primer out of the case everytime in this Kimber. Needless to say, I don't shoot them after realizing this.   My brother in law and I both reload and we don't think twice about swapping low pressure .45 acp loads back and forth. But we wouldn't swap a 10mm load unless it was a greatly reduced FBI type load.

The Shadow, no I have never slugged the barrel.  I should do that some time. I'm sure it must be tighter than a lot of the 10mms out there. I always reach pressure long before many of the folks on this website report with identical loads. So it really was no surprise that I did with this load. I should have started my tests at about 7.8 grs knowing the history of my gun.

With Christmas just around the corner, I may not have time to get back out and test again for accuracy until after the New Year.   If I should find time before then, I will update here.

I received my .401 200 gr WFN from Montana Bullets yesterday.  I loaded up some test rounds with Longshot and fired them across the chrono today.

Test Gun - Kimber TLE 10mm
Chronograph - Shooting Chrony F1

Test loads =

200 gr. WFN
Longshot @ 8.1 grs
CCI # 300
C.O.L. 1.230"
Armscor Brass
Shot 1 = 1206 fps
Shot 2 = 1202 fps
Shot 3 = 1204 fps

200 gr. WFN
Longshot @ 8.2 grs
CCI # 300
C.O.L. 1.230"
Armscor Brass
Shot 1 = 1218 fps
Shot 2 = 1222 fps
Shot 3 = 1220 fps

200 gr. WFN
Longshot @ 8.3 grs
CCI # 300
C.O.L. 1.230"
Armscor Brass
Shot 1 = 1230 fps
Shot 2 = 1234 fps
Shot 3 = 1227 fps

I loaded up 3 rounds each at 8.4 grs and 8.5 grs and 8.6 grs but did not fire these.  My 8.1 gr loads were the hottest I felt comfortable with. The 8.2 and 8.3 grains showed more primer flattening and firing pin swipe then I like.   I will pull the hotter loads and load up a few more starting at 7.9 grs, 8 grs and more 8.1 grs to test again.  This is pretty typical results with my Kimber. I always tend to get higher pressures and velocities with this gun than what people report here.   I didn't test for accuracy this time around. I was running out of daylight and didn't want to take the time.  Next time I will.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Major pistol

I have never heard of a powder called major pistol.  Are you sure it wasn't power pistol?

On second thought, after doing some googling, I found a website that calls Lovex D037-01 "Major Pistol".  I am not at all familiar with this stuff.

I hope to shoot my RIA 5 inch tomorrow. I have loaded the coated bullets over 8.5 grains of Longshot.  It will be interesting to see what I get.

Did you ever get an opportunity to fire these?  I just ordered some today to try

Like you I have never ran across any information about this bullet anywhere online accept Nosler's website. I have never seen them in person. Could you post a picture?

If I had to guess who the "other brass" is made by I would go with Armscorp brass, in my experience it is total garbage.

Rich

Could you share with me your experience with Armscorp brass that has caused you to label it as garbage? I ask because I purchased about 500 pieces of new Armscorp component brass when I first got into reloading 10mm last year. It was the only 10mm brass I could find for sale. All my loads have been with with this brass.  While I haven't noted any sort of problem yet, it would be nice to know what to look for based on others experiences. If there is a safety issue with this brass, I would like to be aware of it.

Thanks

I have been looking for a reduced pressure 10mm load to use in my 10mm brass that has been reloaded more times than I am comfortable for hot loads.  So I loaded up a few test rounds and fired them across the Chrono yesterday.

Test Gun is a Kimber TLE II 10mm, 5" barrel.  Chrono is Chrony F-1 at ten feet from muzzle.  Temp was 68 degrees Fahrenheit at 1000' elevation

Load 1:

Pulled Federal 180 gr. HST
Longshot @ 8.5 grains
CCI # 300 primers
C.O.L.  1.255"
Chrono average - 1202 feet per second

Load 2:

Pulled Federal 180 gr. HST
Longshot @ 8.8 grains
Win WLP primers
C.O.L. 1.255"
Chrono average - 1220 feet per second

Load 3:

Pulled Federal 180 gr. HST
Titegroup @ 5.7 grains
CCI # 300 primers
C.O.L. 1.255"
Chrono average - 1052 feet per second

The Titegroup was the most accurate of the three tested.  However, the Titegroup load showed flatter primers than the faster velocity slower burning Longshot loads.  Further going to prove that Titegroup's fast burn rate causes quick pressure spikes that stress brass as much as a slower burning load would loaded to high velocity.

Now just for fun, here is my chrono results again from last year of higher Longshot charge weights for comparison. These loads were fired on March 28, 2015 through the same gun across the same chrono.

Pulled Federal 180gr HST
Longshot @ 9 grains
Win WLP primer
C.O.L. 1.255"
Chrono average - 1299 feet per second

Pulled Federal 180gr HST
Longshot @ 9.2 grains
Win WLP primer
C.O.L. 1.255"
Chrono average -  1342 feet per second

Pulled Federal 180gr HST
Longshot @ 9.4 grains
Win WLP primer
C.O.L. 1.255"
Chrono average - 1356 feet per second. - Pressure signs, Flattened primers with heavy firing pin sweep. Not much velocity gain from 9.2 grains.  Consider 9.2 grains to be max load in my gun

I made mention in another post that I had been contemplating picking up either a Glock 20 or 29.

Do those that own Glock 10mm's feel comfortable shooting really hot ammo through the stock Glock barrel?  Or is an aftermarket barrel necessary for really hot stuff?

It seems from what I can glean hear, that stock barrels do not have enough support for underwood like loads.  I don't want to ruin my brass. And I certainly don't want it to blow up.  My reloads clock through my. 5" 1911 barrel around 1250 - 1320 with a 180 gr bullet.  I'm trying to decide if these would run in a stock Glock safely.

Thanks for the vid sqlbullet.  I think I'll give that a try.  Of the two Metalforms that I have, one is much worse than the other for malfunctioning. I think I will try disassembling gthe better of the two and seeing what I find.

I will probably leave the worst of the two as is.  I have it well marked (painted) so that I know it is very unreliable.  I actually use it this way sometimes when at the range to practice malfunction drills.  As odd as that sounds, it's sort of nice to have one that randomly fails to allow random malfunction drills in a controlled environment.

As an interim you can also try the following:  Oil the magazine liberally, then use a ruler to manually cycle it about 100 times.  When done, disassemble and completely clean the oil (dirt trap) and try again.  It could just need to "wear" in some burrs.

I was always going to try this, but I never did.  For starters , I'm not sure how you get the base plate off the mag to disassemble it.

I have a few Glocks in 9mm.  One of them is my daily carry.  I have been contemplating picking one up in 10mm as well.

So if someone was to ask you the question of which production 10mm handgun is the best choice right out of the box, how would you answer?

What do you think are the best choices for new 10mm handguns.  Ones that can handle the majority of ammo without the need of modifications. Rank your choices from best choice to least favorite.

Maybe you might also want to include a second list of favorite 10mm handguns that perform well with some modifications too.

So does anyone else here have a favorite milder 10mm load that they want to share?

I have never used WSF or Unique before.
