I've got two boxes of fifty rounds each of PPU 10mm 180 gr JHP ammo for sale FTF here in SE Denver. I sold my 10mm pistol last year and these two boxes were sitting in my safe. $60.00 for BOTH boxes. Let me know...

Wow... tough guy who fought hard!  Large Cinnamon bear for the New Mexico- Colorado border.  I keep those Critical Duty 175's in my G20 in the house and city.  I think he'll  be transitioning to Hard Cast either in the Glock or large Magnum revolver.  He survived and that's what counts!

Because most of my regular forty plus year trips to the deep backcountry of the West for mountaineering have taken me to some very remote places in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, over the years I've come to think more about personal safety than when I first began. Maybe it's  due to the fact that when young, a person  thinks they're  somewhat bullet proof. I did but as I've  gotten a 'little' older, perhaps I've  also gotten somewhat wiser.

Along the way, one time, I had to pull a 9mm out of my pack when we ran into two strange guys about a mile in from a Colorado trailhead in the Collegiates when these guys thought my girlfriend and I were two... peaceful... hippy types and could cause no defense. WRONG assumption on their part. We were returning from a day's  long climb and sat down for a quick drink and snack, tired when they approached.  I sensed them out from the git-go and when they 'pressed' the conversation, I calmly had to reveal the S&W 3913 and say to them... "I think it's  best, and you should agree, that you should move on". They complied! I reported them when we got to town.

Then there have been times in bear country that we saw mounds of recent bear scat dump and knew they were not too far off. At night or very early morning under headlamp on approach, one has to keep their wits... all the time.

I share this because we NEVER know when some strange thing could happen and being older, with all the craziness in the world, one needs to be 'prepared'.

I bought a Glock 20SF back in 2012 and been carrying it with DT 200gr H.C. with a spare mag of Underwood 165gr G.D. JHP. PLUS... always carry bear spray! Always!

There have been times that I almost bought a Ruger 4.2 inch or there abouts 454 Casull with some heavy Underwood loads and some lighter ammo as backup but weight has always been important while backpacking and climbing... so my choice has always remained... for a handgun... the Glock 10mm.

If I were on a horse or had a pack animal along, I'd  probably choose a 12ga pump with the best penetrating slugs possible... or a carbine .45-70 with a heavy load.  But I'm  usually on foot so the Glock 10mm makes common sense... to me... WITH bear spray.

This post went on long enough... just wanted to share some real world experience with the forum.

Whatever you carry... hope you never have to use it... and... be safe! Also, carry bear spray!

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Underwood 165gr Gold Dot

I've  always liked the Underwood 165gr Gold Dot as my spare mag for back country and while traveling. Excellent velocities and expansion.

For OP's application, I think the Underwood 180gr G.D. or XTP would be more preferable.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Hard Cast & Glock Algorithm
September 04 2018 03:20:44 PM MDT
My particular Glock 20SF initially had some problems feeding Underwood 220gr Hard Cast. I experimented with 22# recoil spring and a Tungsten guide rod, both given to me by a friend.  Continued to have issues with the 220gr H.C.

Went back to stock and have been using Double Tap 200gr Hard Cast with no problems feeding, extracting or lead fouling. I don't  shoot many rounds of lead HC at a session and typically near the end.

So... for the back country in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, I load the DT 200gr H.C. and carry bear spray.

Good luck with your ammo choice and enjoy the 10mm.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: DoubleTap or Buffalo bore
June 10 2018 07:36:24 PM MDT
Buffalo Bore... expensive. FMJ 10mm. No longer buy.
Underwood... moderately expensive. 165gr Gold Dot JHP. 10mm. Travel round and B.C. backup.
Double Tap... reasonable. 200gr Hard Cast. 10mm. Backcountry.
Hornady 175g Critical Duty JHP. 10mm. Home defense.

I just got the #91255 LE 50 Round box for $35.94.

I decided to go that route for my G29 for SD. They average 1083 out of a G29, while the CD averaged 977 from a G23. So it's not full power 10mm, but it is still 100 fps faster than the .40 in comparable barrels (3.78" vs 4.05").

This is my first 10mm, so I'm starting in the lower end of the spectrum to make sure my follow up shots stay acceptable. I will work my way up to the Underwood stuff.

I transitioned last year to the Hornady 175gr Critical Duty JHP for my Glock 20SF house pistol because of its excellent expansion, reliable feeding and feel like I don't need my Underwood 165gr Gold Dot JHP or DT Hard Cast rounds for here in the house.  The latter are saved for the road and the back country.

While all the ammo mentioned are fairly straight forward to handle in the G20, the Hornady, based on all the videos I've seen and read about the ammo, will be A-OK for home defense.

Enjoy your 10mm.

General Discussion / Re: 10mm KaBoom have a good read

Wow! As the article suggested, fortunate for the shooter, the Glock 20 absorbed most of the 'kaboom's blast'.

FWIW, since I have chosen not to reload, I try to buy the best factory ammo I'm able to. Keith from Underwood, who has been an upfront guy for years, stepped to the plate and there's a lot to be said about him and the company.

I had an 'issue' last year with an undercharged round and when this occurred, I stopped shooting the Underwood 10mm 165gr Gold Dot JHP, contacted Keith and they took back what I had and replaced it with similar ammo.

Like many others, we rely on excellent ammo for our own, our family's protection and self defense, whether it be in the city or in the back country.  I hope that Underwood further tightens up their 'quality control', so there's absolutely no issue with their ammo.

More and more I'm using my Glock 20SF as my primary home defense pistol, of course, with other firearms as backup.  I like the 10mm round for its versatility and 'results'.  Like many others, we always want our pistols to go bang when we pull the trigger with no problems or reservation what-so-ever.

Good to see that the shooter is OK.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Hornady 10mm Critical Duty
December 01 2016 05:36:05 AM MST
For what it's worth, I keep the Hornady 175gr JHP Critical Duty loaded in my Glock20SF for home defense, along with spare mag.

Sure, I've got Underwood 165gr JHP Gold Dot and DT 200gr Hard Cast for traveling and backcountry combo.

The Critical Duty feeds very reliably,  is easy to handle, round expands very well and packs good punch... which is especially what I want from a home defense pistol. Frankly, I don't  want to go nuclear in my home. YMMV.

General Discussion / Re: Guy attacked by Grizzly
October 17 2016 01:16:14 PM MDT
The survivor is one heck of a guy, twice attacked. I've got a ton of respect for his fortuitous opportunity to live another day.

I've spent a lot of time in bear country  and the spray  comes out first,  then the handgun. In my case a Glock 20 with 200gr Hard Cast.

If I wasn't carrying climbing gear or heavy backpack, I'd take a shotgun with 12ga Magnum slugs.

I'm still amazed he survived. KUDOS!

Can you actually measure the overall length of the ammo?  1.2500" - 1.2550" should feed fine from the G-20 SF.  I have seen others experience that same issue of FTF and hanging to the side of the feed ramp.

The impulse being higher on the Underwood over other factory ammo, could increase slide velocities.  Use of an aftermarket RSA could help control the slide velocity to the rear and add some potential to feeding with forward closure.

I use the Wolff Gunsprings non captive system and 22 lbs spring for mine!

I'm  out of the ammo unfortunately.  I also tried this same ammo last year with the 22# recoil spring and tungsten guide rod. Had the same problems. That's why I took out the last box of fifty and ran it stock. No difference. Could very well be the length and the shape of bullet with flat nose?   I thought some here might have noticed the same.

Overall, been an Underwood fan like many others on the forum. My #1 Underwood Self Defense ammo of theirs  is the 165gr JHP Gold Dot. I like this one a lot!

The ammo I've  had trouble with,  getting stuck on the ramp while feeding  is their 200gr TMJ. I honestly don't know if the company has discontinued it or not. All I've  experienced with 100 rounds is an inordinate amount of failure to feeds.

Running stock, my G20SF feeds the DT 200gr Hard Cast very well.  It didn't like the 220gr  Hard Cast.

Maybe others can chime in... I think the Underwood 200 gr. TMJ in question, appears to be... too long?

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Advice on full power defense load
August 16 2016 06:40:01 PM MDT
OP... you're  familiar with .45ACP and looking for 'full power' 10mm.

I've  tried a bunch of different ammo choices depending on my 'situation' in my 20SF. By this I mean, home defense, back country carry... and I mean... deep back country carry, and traveling.

I came up with the following...

Deep back country,  black and brown bear country...  DT 200 gr Hard Cast... with bear spray.

Back up mag for back country... Underwood 165gr Gold Dot JHP.

Home defense  and traveling...  Hornady  175gr Critical Duty JHP.

I personally don't  want MAXIMUM  hand cannon blasting in my brick home. Yes, in the back country, fine. In my house, I want reliable feeding and expansion with very good energy and penetration.

Everyone's  different, you know... YMMV.

I think a good Silvertip 175gr JHP  or a Hornady 175gr Flex Lock JHP, are excellent for carry and home defense.

General Discussion / Re: What are your favorite cigars?
August 03 2016 08:29:06 PM MDT
Been smoking cigars since college in early 70's. Now, smoke one or two a week and still enjoy a fine smoke.

Was an early customer of El Credito, LA Gloria Cubanos, and my regular cigar for many years was their Wavel Robusto,  regular or Maduro.

Have smoked many kinds of cigars, Padrons,  Cohiba,  Montecristo especially #2's,  Fuentes,  too many to list.

My absolutely  favorite cigar, quality and price wise, full of flavor, richness and overall satisfaction...

Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschilds Robusto OSCURO,  Double Maduro.

Famous Smoke Shop  and years ago JR, my favorite vendors.

Enjoy a good smoke!
