Questions/Suggestions / Re: DDoS against firearms websites

I had very slow loading at the time I posted that. It was slow at my home, at work, and at remote work sites in Washington and Louisiana, that's why I reported it. The next day, everything was fine and fast, and it's been that way ever since.

The rated value of the spring should correspond to the force required to compress it one inch.

I am a network applications developer with 21 years experience with Linux. I have maintained as many as 1200 machines at one time.

Response from 10mm-firearms.com is very sluggish. I don't want to do any aggressive analysis without permission, but I *think* you are hosted as a virtual domain on a server owned by unifiedlayer.com which is racked at he.net. Rather than suffering from DDoS, I suspect that the server is oversubscribed. If that were the case, you would not see anything interesting in your Apache logs, except long times between responses, and no amount of filtering would make a significant impact.

In short, I'd be surprised if you were getting heavy traffic, DDoS or otherwise, but you are suffering from poor response time. Examining the server using top and strace might yield some clues.

I am largely guessing about that. If you think otherwise I could examine a sample of your Apache logs if you like, for free.

Very cool. Smith's Book of Pistols and Revolvers has a great 3 page article on the Schwarzlose 1908 with general comments on blow-forward designs.

Thanks The_Shadow. I was estimating about 7.5gr of PP for the Zero 200 FMJ for ~1050. I know about the recoil rod problem, but I have also heard of people banging away with the old Norma ammo without any complaints from their Omega. I got the Omega for about half of what a Delta Elite with an accurizing job would run me, so I'm willing to take my chances. Once I have the rod in my hands I might be able to figure out some way to make it a little stiffer... That last sentence came out pretty funny.

If it's a 1911 it might need some fitting. I've had the issue with some 1911s where the slide locks back with rounds still in the magazine. As it was explained to me by a gunsmith, the bullet nudges the slide stop when feeding and can cause it to happen. Different bullets & loads can have a big impact on this. Had one in .45 that would be fine with COAL of 1.200 but this would sometimes happen on loads with a 1.260 COAL. Two ways to address it. Either filing off very small amounts off the slide stop where the bullet it hitting it or to dimple the slide stop where the plunger hits it. I believe someone makes a slide stop where there's almost like a miniscule ledge to accomplish the same as dimpling it. Picked up this tool (http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/handgun-tools/action-frame-tools/safety-slide-stop-tools/1911-auto-detent-spotting-drill-prod7665.aspx) from Brownell's and have used it on a few 1911s. Does take some patience as it appears to be designed to do it slowly. Too much with either method and your slide won't lock back so take it slow and make a few trips to the range slowly testing it out.

It's the 10-8 slide stop that doesn't need a dimple. I use EGW slide-stops and the detent spotting drill won't even scratch them! Have to dimple them with a diamond point. Have had to file the top surface of a 1911 slide stop to clear the slide. It's rare for a slide-stop to need fitting, but it does happen.

If Springer would ever make a 10mm, I'd do the same that I did to this Mil-Spec. C&S hammer, otherwise all internals and small parts are EGW. 2-1/2lb trigger (did it myelf and have 600 rounds on it already - it proves AND the thumb safety works). Oh, and an Aristocrat sight set.:

Hi Folks! I have a NIB Omega 5" early model (ported, dual extractors, non-bridged 2-piece rod - beautiful medium polish bluing!) in "jail". I bought a bunch of ZERO 200gr bullets, brass, and dies. I plan on using it for long-range shooting and Silhouette field pistol competition (I've managed to shoot a 17/40 with a 45acp 1911). I've been shooting hot 45acp out to 400 yards, and bought the Omega to tighten things up a bit. It's clear from examining the Omega that it is a precisely fitted pistol.

I'm anticipating working up loads with Unique and Power Pistol, and would love to hear success stories with those powders loading for the OMEGA. I'm aiming for 1050fps. Any more lobbers in the forum?
