Title: Recommendations for Factory Subsonic Hollowpoints?
Post by: justsomedude on October 15 2020 03:20:00 PM MDT
The only HPs I've been able to find in subsonic are the Hornady 200gr JHPs at 1050 fps.

Are there another other factory options for 10mm HP subs?

And no, reloading is not an option.

Federal Hydra-shok's are loaded to subsonic velocities last I checked.

Just curious what your intended use of these would be? I wouldn't expect much if any expansion with the XTP. They are a pretty tough bullet.

This is for a truck gun (AR pistol) that has a dedicated suppressor. I stumbled upon some 10mm FMJ subs last week and was blown away by the sound level (no ear protection needed). It literally sounds like a paintball gun.

Looks like the Hydra-Shoks will do the businesses. Should be just under the speed of sound through my 8" barrel.  :D

Ok. I wouldn't expect any stellar results as you will have less energy than a full power 45ACP.

180gr 10mm HydraShoks are rated for 1030fps out of a 4"-5" barrel.

Out of my 8" MK10 they'll be going 1100-1120 FPS. That's pushing 500 ft.lbs. ME.

That's less than stellar?

Just get some .40 cal ammo. Most all of that is subsonic. Runs in a 10mm just fine.

Just a note, on a 10mm forum anything less than 600 foot pounds of energy is considered weak by 10mm standards. Most 10mm enthusiasts appreciate ammo upwards to 700 foot pounds of energy.

Your hydrashocks will work fine for what you want. The FBI carried subsonic ammo in their MP5 10mm's for a decade.

Just get almost any factory .40 cal. Cheaper also

If the Banshee he plans on using it in has a standard AR bolt face, then it would just stuff .40 ammo to the end of the chamber. It has to be controlled feed to allow 40s to work in a 10mm chamber without headspacing on the case mouth.

I know it's an older post but FYI Winchester also made it for LEO use only. It can be  found at gun shows from time to time
