Title: average penetration for Underwood’s 180 Grain bonded, and 200 Grain XTP
Post by: Kenk on August 24 2020 10:52:45 AM MDT
Out of curiosity, I contacted Underwood regarding the average penetration they are seeing on their 180gr bonded Gold Dot, and their 200gr XTP 10mm ammo. It looks like both are coming in at about 15.75'' of penetration. Sounds like the 180gr GD would be a dandy carry option to me : )

They are definitely good options. The 180gr bonded sure gets torn up at that velocity but in all the tests I've seen it still holds together and leaves a rather nasty hole.

What is interesting to me is if you load the 200gr XTP lighter it seems to penetrate closer to around 18 (with less but still good expansion).

I split hairs over ammo without practicing enough so I picked the Underwood 200gr XTP and stuck with it.

Absolutely, I will likely use the 200gr XTP again this fall for whitetail
