Title: Ten mm autos !
Post by: Gunmaniii on July 24 2020 01:23:47 AM MDT
Hi ,
Except for a Glock 20, I'm new to the Ten mm.  I did buy a Les Baer Premier II in .38 Super in the fall of 2000. It's a great pistol !
The G-20 is just a bit large for my small hands. I've been corresponding with Brenda at Baers , and I think I'm going to go with the 5 " Premier II Kenai Special. I'm also getting the  " 1.5 " at 50 yards
Package.
Brenda says they use 155 and 180 grn. XTP Factory Ammo when testing the 50 yd. accuracy. Can anyone suggest a proven , reliable load with the 180 XTP at approximately 1200 FPS ? I'll use new StarLine brass and WW or Federal primers. I am not really keen on 800X or Blue Dot , although that could mess up some proposed load suggestions.
Many thanks ,

                     John

Morning John,
BE-86 may be an option. I'm sure some of the others could give you a better idea for a starting charge weight to achieve your desired FPS
Thanks

Ken

Right around 1200fps, BlueDot may be the most accurate load. Power Pistol, LongShot, can all easily push a 180gr XTP at 1200fps, but may not be the most accurate as they seem to deliver more consistent velocities as you get closer to 1300fps. BE86 may be a good choice, as well.

That's from my experience with my 5" 1911s. Your mileage may vary! Congrats on the upcoming gun.

Blue Dot for accuracy. Maybe AA#9 would be a good option. Lots of powders will get the velocity you're looking for, though how accurate they are in that gun is something you just have to find out.

For my all time best Accuracy, I use 10.4gr BD under a 180gr XTP, or HAP

Around 7.9-8.1 grains of BE-86 oughta do it.  Max load is 8.2 @ 1256 fps.

I didn't have much luck with 155 & 180 grain XTPs when using BE86 and pushing the limits. It would easily hit the fps marks but the accuracy just wasn't there. I made the switch to Blue Dot and cut my groups by more than half. I'm not trying to talk you into a powder you don't want to use. I'm just sharing my personal experience with powders and the 10mm.

Curious why you don't want to use Blue Dot? I find it easy to work with, clean burning, and relatively forgiving. It's got some low-light flash, but that hardly matters in a target gun.

Absolutely BD is an awesome option

I like blue dot at that speed but you would do well with BE-86 as well.
