I have been working with Shawn Fairbairn, Armscor's head gunsmith / manager, and his wife Jenny to best address the distance my RIA Ultra 10mm launches brass (aprx 25 - 30') Shawn suggested a Flat bottom firing pin stop, 25lb mainspring, and Extractor and ejector tuning. Does this sound like realistic steps to take to help lesson my brass travel? The amazing part, excluding shipping, this will cost only $31.95...Not sure how this can be done for so little, but I'll take it 😀
Thanks
Ken
Yes that is what most have done to help the situation. Flat bottom firing pin stop would be one of the first things to try, then a balance of recoil and main springs.
My RIA Ultra 10mm kicks the cases almost straight up and to the right a little. I usually use a brass deflector (mesh style) and have to place it just about directly on top of the gun.
Thanks Marchboom, who makes your brass deflector / where can I find one?
Ken
Yes --- He is the gunsmith I prefer 24# sprig though. I have found that cycles everything even light factory ammo. I posted a few years back here about my Colt DE throwing brass into the next county. I did this exact thing though while I was it I also changed the firing pin spring comes as a package from Wolff.
Thanks my Friend!
Hey Mr.revolverguy,
What was the aprx distance reduced in brass travel using the 24lb main spring and the flat bottom firing pin stop?
Thanks man!
About 6 to 8 feet in a very nice pile I mean within inches of one another. Where from factory I bet it was 12 to 18 yards. I had brass get thrown over the burm into the steel bay an outdoor burm that is twice the height recommended by the NRA. Guy came over with like 3 pieces of brass and was like are these yours LOL. We laughed then he wanted to shoot of course. He at first thought it was a ricochet seeing something bounce around in front of him.
Lol, So for $140.00 including the round trip shipping fee, Shawn Fairbairn, Armscor Manager and Chief Gunsmith will do a complete custom reliability tune which includes a Trigger / Action job, replace springs with Wolff and or ISMI premium gun springs, and install a Flat bottom firing pin stop, as well as a 25lb mainspring...Sounds like a deal you me 😀😀😀
Kind of excited about the Rock Ultra's return next week
1. complete custom reliability
tune / Trigger / Action job
2. replace springs with Wolff and or ISMI premium gun spring
3. Flat bottom firing pin stop
25lb mainspring
4. Ultrasonic clean
All for $140.00 : )
Wow, Shawn & Jenny run a tight shop
The Rock arrived back home today. I tell you, even at 60 and doing a fairly laborious job (not a wimp by any stretch for my age) racking the slide takes some effort.
Thanks
Ken
I believe a lot of UFO sightings are actually 10mm brass. :))
Absolutely, I'm hoping the recent work done tames that a bit
We should have a contest to see how far we can throw it! LOL.
Kenk, how'd things work out?
Well, my brass flingige is down to aprx 12', so it has for sure helped
Thanks
Ken
Nice. Its always good when the work done translates to positive effects.
Anyone who shoots my Valor's laughs at how far it flings the cases. I don't mind the distance and am glad of the 9 o'clock angle.
Yep, was well worth doing, now the Sig P220 Hunter is a different story, fling the brass a solid 30'
Ken
What are potential remedies for the P220 balistic brass issue. I get a regular workout tracking down brass from my P220 Elite 5".25 to 30 feet seems to be the norm for "full power" 180 grain loads. I seem to have a brass attrition rate of about 10% due to AWOL bfrass.
Wolff doesnot list springs for the %" Elite. Are ther other sources?
