Title: 10mm SP versus LP
Post by: Johnnyreloader on July 08 2020 07:14:38 PM MDT
A while back I bought some Blazer 10mm ammo and it had small primers. Finally got around to testing primer versus velocity.
10 shot strings measured 15' from muzzle, all brass once fired, 155gr Gold Dot bullets seated to 1.25".
Test pistol was Ruger SR1911, 5".
Data is formatted:
Powder, charge weight
CCI 500, CCI 550, CCI 350, Winchester WLP

CFE Pistol, 8.8grs
1319, 1336, 1370, 1359
CFE Pistol, 9.2grs
1383, 1379, 1409, 1403
Longshot, 9.1grs
1321, 1314, 1377, 1367
Longshot, 9.6grs
1370, 1372, 1416, 1395
AA #9, 15.4grs
1383, 1418, 1445, 1432
AA #9, 15.8grs
1424, 1450, 1483, 1474

As I expected, the CCI 350 loads produced highest velocities.

This is useful Johnny.
With availability limited and prices shooting up (all puns intended) Im considering reloading.

Pretty consistent results.  Thanks for sharing your work, Johnnyreloader,  I use WLP primers, I like where it fell in your test.

Even with the limited data, there may be some signs of benefits of some combinations . There is a suggestion that Longshot is more consitent with the SPP. At least in that gun used.
