I have been a 10mm fan since they were not all the rage... I started with my first 10mm in the early 90's, a 610 no dash. Since then I have grown to own all of the S&W 610's pre-lock, a couple of steel frame Witnesses and a couple of MegaStars and a Contender barrel. As much as I like 1911's, I never felt the desire for one in 10mm. The frames and guns seemed a little weak and always concerned me.
My favorites??? Lew Horton snub nose 10mm and the MegaStar. I do not shoot the MegaStars often due to lack of parts, but do drag them out from time to time. One in Starvel and one in blue!
Of course I reload 10mm as well as about 25 other cartridges and I cast all of my own bullets.
Just wanted to say hi and that I will be spending some time hear reading about others experiences with 10mm guns and ammo.
Matt
Matt, welcome aboard!
Not many megastar owners here, but they are great 10mm's. Built like tanks I understand.
Also good to have another bullet caster here.
As far as 1911's, I am the opposite of you. I only have 1911's in 10mm, most of them 1911A2 double wide style. I can assure they are plenty strong for 10mm. Remember, Colt fixed the cracked frame issues by removing material from the frame.
Glad to have you and look forward to hearing your input on topics here!
Hey Matt and welcome to the forum! I am just starting down the road of cast bullets and casting. Glad to have another voice of experience.
Welcome Matt!
Casting is a natural progression for an advanced reloader. I have been casting for about 25 years, feel low on moulds as some of my buds have hundreds, I still am slightly under 100. It gives the ultimate in flexibility, I can use the same bullet in 32ACP, 32 H&R, 30/30 gallery loads and so on, just by changing the diameter.
I feed my 10's with 160 to 210 grain bullets with and without hollow points. I have taken 2 deer with 610's and 200 grain loads between 75 and 100 yards. The 610 is what got me started down the 10mm rat hole! :)
Welcome!
You go Waaayyy back to have a Megastar! What a heavy beast that was. Mine is long gone, but I think it's unlikely that you'd experience any parts breakage if you use it.
Another welcome here mattlward! I also been in the 10mm game since end of 89-1990 and have loaded and cast bullets for mine as well!
Hope you find the forum useful! Best regards! :D
Howdy, from Texas, Matt. Looking forward to hearing about your M610s! I recently acquired one, and I've been having a "blast" with it.
