Title: Quick on / off holster options
Post by: Kenk on June 01 2020 03:48:31 PM MDT
I'm in a bit of a quandary for a quick on OWB holster. I'm pretty sure I have close to 20 different holsters, but only one gets close to what I am currently looking for which is a comp-tac minotaur IWB / small of the back for the G30. Ultimately, I would like an easy on OWB hip holster for my XDm 3.8 9mm that doesn't require belt threading, as I can't carry at work, but often have to stop at the grocery store on my way home. On non-work days or other, I prefer the belt threaded holsters, but are somewhat awkward putting on in the store parking lot...ideas?
Thanks

Ken

None.  I feel your pain.

Clip on OWB holsters are subject to grab and rip tactics that break the clips and leave your gun in the hands of a bad guy.  And they don't hold the gun tight so they are less concealed.

Paddle holsters, when well made, don't come off easily by grab and pull, but also don't keep the gun tight to the body.

The best option I have come up with is a single clip IWB holster (I like Vedder's light tuck).  I carry IWB appendix and I can put it on/take it off pretty covertly.  More covertly than an OWB paddle holster.  But that is appendix.  If you move to 4:00, it is about the same as a paddle holster.  But, it is back to IWB, not OWB.

Another not great option is to just have a second holster in the car and leave your holster on at work with no gun in it.

Like I said, I feel your pain.

Thanks, the best idea is just leave it on with no gun, but my awesome  library loven  Cargill employer would have a Complete meltdown if they saw it, which they eventually Would 😂😂😂

I have one of Lobo's snap loop pancake holsters and am very happy with it. It may fit your need.

The claw attaches to the holster on the tension screw pushes against the inside or your pants waistband/belt to rotate the grip of the gun into your body.  Worth it IMHO, for appendix.  I generally don't use if for holsters I carry at 4:00.  But this is related to the guns I carry at 4:00 more than the utility of the claw.  The only guns I carry lately IWB at 4:00 are my "sunday" guns which are very small.  Glock 27, MP Shield 45.  The grip is so small that the rotation by the claw doesn't really matter.

Morning sqlbullet, so the comfort level of the Vedder is tolerable? I've never cared much for IWB holsters in the past
Thanks again

I find them very comfortable.  Previously I carried in a Crossbreed supertuck, and also used an Aliengear Clocktuck.  The Vedder is on par with those for me.

For reference I am 6'0" tall, and currently carry about 230 lbs on my frame.  Bit of a belly, but I still fit 38" jeans in the waist with the gun in there.
