Loading these up on Sunday. Which of these two you like and why for the 200grn XTP?
I haven't used BE-86, and others with more knowledge than I seem to love it. I personally can't quite come to terms with how far over-book people are loading it to get the velocities that Longshot supports with published data.
Part of me just thinks that if BE-86 was perfectly safe at those loads, Alliant would have been the first to know, and they would publish it.

This is BANANAS. You've seen higher loads than this?

Alliant lists 7.6 grains of BE-86 as max for a 190 grain bullet. They have no load data for 200 grain bullets at all.
Hodgdon publishes 8.2 grains of Longshot with a 200 grain bullet for 1172 fps...so within 78fps of the Underwood nuclear load, but supported by published data.
Lots of the boutique loaders go well over published data, though whether that makes it safe for the likes of you or I to copy their loads is highly debatable.
I certainly don't claim to know more than Kevin Underwood when it comes to hand loading, but I know enough to know that I don't know enough to try to follow him that far off the reservation.

Wow...thanks. With that being said one needs to have a supportive chamber for sure with the UW sttuff in 200grns.
