Title: Here we go again
Post by: Trapper6L on March 19 2020 03:55:33 PM MDT
My nephew was out and about today and wanted to know if I needed anything in the way of components. While I told him no cause I could buy it cheaper with all of the online folks having sales and no haz mat, was I forever wrong. Primers are again scare. Forget the price, there aren't many to be had. I found none of small pistol, a few large pistol, a few small rifle, which were the ones I needed. Looks like the Obama years all over again.

Yeah I was out at the local place that sells reloading misc and guns etc. They now have a fenced off line of people just waiting to buy guns. This store has 5 registers and they are all open. I talked to a friend and said it was like Christmas shopping and he said it was much better than Christmas. I am stocked up very well myself but friends are putting the arm on me for rounds. I loaded a bunch of 38sp today. it is kind of fun.   Craig :o

Lucky me...I bought 10,000 primers, 6lbs of powder and 1,000 Starline 10mm brass a week ago. I'm sitting on about 30 pounds of powder and over a hundred pounds of bullets, plus around 60 pounds of loaded ammo, so no worries on my end.

I have been stocking slowly for years.

Quick inventory:  56 lbs of various powders, 26K various primers, 60K+ various brass, 25K + bullets and about 3k lbs of lead.

That doesn't count the 4-5K of ammo have around.

I still have thousands of primers left over from the Desert Storm shortage days (1991).

This thread reminded me to go do an inventory. Overall i'm in good shape i'd say but some items probably need to be beefed up.

Oh what has history taught us?  Boy Scouts...Be prepared!  Marines...Adapt, Improvise, Overcome!  Handloaders...Stack it deep!

Inventoried my primers today, 27,000 - 28,000.
Powder supply is excellent too, I only use 3 varieties, IMR3031 for rifles and SR7625 & SR4756 for handgun. When Hodgdon announced the dis-continuence of SR7625 & SR4756 a few years back, I stocked up.

In deep is an excellent position to be in. In an ever changing country / world, staying ahead of the next shortage is our challenge  : )

Where I live there are only two options locally for reloading components. Scheels and Fleet Farm with Scheels currently closed. I went to Fleet Farm yesterday and everything is in good supply except for 9mm bullets. I have been watching bulk boxes of Speer TMJ 45 bullets (300 pieces) on their clearance shelf for about 6 months or so. Started at a regular retail price of $64.99. Almost bought a box a week ago at $34.99. Yesterday they were $14.99. Bought both boxes. Watching the 40 caliber 180 grain Speer TMJ on the clearance shelf. Currently it's at $40 for the bulk box. The factory loaded ammo on the other had was in short supply for 9mm, 38 Spl, 45 acp and 223.
