Title: EAA 10 conversion
Post by: gnappi on March 18 2020 07:23:26 AM MDT
I have a 10 compact and for it I recently ordered a complete .40 slide for plinking. With the standard mags so long it looked like EAA is the only source (out of stock) for mag spacers to use longer mags in a compact frame. Does anyone have a source for mag spacers aside from EAA?

Have you tried running without the spacers?  I have never needed them in my 1911's that run 40.

Yeah, the compact frame is pretty short and the space the mag creates is a PITA. EAA has them on back order and hopefully soon they will have them.

Wonder if you could find the right Hogue Handall Grip Sleeve and make one that would work

Sorry, I misread your original post.  I was thinking a mag block that goes in the mag to take us the space the 40 doesn't fill.

You don't happen to have a 3D printer?

No, I do not :-(

If I did, where would I get the image template?

You would have to build it.  Take an hour if you are familiar with tinkercad.com, take 3-4 hours if you are learning the tool for the first time.

If you take a go at it, my starting advice in tinkercad is to think of it as sculpting, not drawing.  You add base shapes, then create objects to merge as "holes" to take away what isn't your part.

Below is a recoil plug for a 1911 project.  I don't plan to use the 3D printed part in the gun, but wanted a prototype to validate the concept before I spent a day at the mill making it out of 416 stainless.  It is made up of a series of boxes and cylinders, with material removed for the hole in the middle and for where the barrel recesses are.  This took about 45 minutes to draft, including converting all my measurements from SAE to metric.

I wasn't sure If they were actually still making them..?? But they are huh, just on back-order? Was this verified with an email or phone call? I seen on another site or two but they were also out of stock I thought they were a discontinued Item.

I'm fairly new to using the full size mag in my compact, but honestly my pinky finger fits so well in the gap between the mag floor plate and the grip that I didn't feel like I was missing anything.. obviously not too well of a fit for you. I suppose I would give them a try if and when they become available again.. But honestly with whats going on in Italy and all over the world right now I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I understand the want and potential need, as I have a few for various mags.. I have several sleeves from Promag's 1911 extended mags.. and some for Promag 10rd'ers on my Taurus TCP PT738 that are probably still available from a seller on ebay who 3D prints them.. kinda gimmicky but the work well for the range :)  -Ben

I spoke to a gal at EAA, and she said they're expecting some in. While chatting I asked her if she would keep my phone number (she said she would) and hold a half dozen for me. We'll see.
