Title: XDm 10, 4.5" Mods
Post by: Graybeard on March 12 2020 02:48:30 PM MDT
I have mentioned in other posts that I was a little disappointed in my recent purchase. Way too much muzzle flip and too much recoil to be an enjoyable, or even useful shooter.

First step was Talon grips. Big difference as it was too smooth in the wrong places. Second step was to install a Powder River trigger kit, major improvement. Unfortunately, there were only 20# and 22# recoil springs available from Wolff Springs to slow the slide down. Still had the muzzle flip issue.

So the solution for that turned out to be a FLGR and bushing from Springer Precision that allows for the use of 1911 recoil springs. I also ordered 24#, 26#, and 28# 1911 recoil springs from Wolff Springs. The stack height is greater for the 1911 springs. Clipping off 2 coils made them fit perfectly.

I started testing with the 28# spring and the gun functioned perfectly with medium and hot ammo. It was pretty difficult to rack the slide. The 26# spring seems to be the sweet spot. There's a big enough difference in muzzle flip and felt recoil to allow for pretty quick follow up shots.

If anyone else is looking to make their XDm 10 a more pleasant shooter, I would strongly suggest this as an option.
