Title: Sig P220 Elite 10mm
Post by: Overkill338 on March 09 2020 06:43:58 PM MDT
It feels like shooting a .40 Glock as far as recoil. Accuracy, I shoot my P320 better, but I'm not used to the SAO, or a 220 trigger. It has the front night sight and adjustable rear. This gun is unbelievable though!
In a month's time, I sold my Glocks (all but two) and a good deal on an M17, caused me to get another P320, and now a P220 Elite.
LOVE......THIS.......GUN!!!

They were some cheaper online, and I really wanted the Hunter model in the Kryptec camo. But, I really like the guy that runs the gun shop this came from. I'd rather buy from him than just give him $15 for a transfer. Maybe that sounds crazy, but hes a good dude. I believe in supporting our local gun shops.

It is so smooth! I took her apart, cleaned factory goo oil out, and oiled it with Lucas Extreme Duty gun oil. Man, after I learn the trigger, this will be a ragged hole shooter!

I need advice on stiffer springs for Underwood ammo.

The 220 elite in 10mm is very nice. I recently considered one that my LGS got in... However, the SAO trigger was disappointing to me. It had quite a bit of pre-travel, a little bit of creep and about a 5lb trigger pull. I'm a bit of a trigger snob...lol. I could have had some trigger work done but decided to pass on it.

I will eventually smooth mine up.

I bought a  P220 Match Elite DA/SA 5" Reverse Two-Tone, Adjustable Sights, G10 Grips a few years ago when they first came out. Love the gun, a great shooter and the weight greatly diminishes the felt recoil. If only it held more rounds, but for that my GP 40 does the job.

Back about 15 years ago I got in on the Bruce Gray conversion of Sig P220 Stainless Elite .45 ACP to 10mm. Mr. Gray told me that it was not advisable to shoot full power 10mm cartridges on a regular basis out of this conversion as the gun was not designed to handle it. I later sold it. When Sig came out with their 10mm P220, I was thinking about getting one. Then I read somewhere that their P220 10mm was also not designed for a regular diet of full power 10mm cartridges. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but, after reading the lower power ballistics of their 10mm Sig branded ammunition, I was not impressed and decided to look elsewhere. I ended up with a Night Hawk Custom 10mm and all I shoot out of it are full power 10mm cartridges, mostly Underwood Ammo.

The P220 10mm is built better than any of the other 10mm pistols. Go to Sig Talk and chat with those guys. What you mention was my first question, but it is built to handle it. The factory recoil spring has to be in the 22 lb range, because my wife can hardly rack the slide. PMC fmj feels like it's barely able to charm her the next round. With Buffalo Bore 180 XTPs, they chrono'd at 1343 from my 4.6" barrel in my G29. Out of this 5", they tend to bring 1375. Everything about them is built to take it. Stainless Steel frame and Slide, full length slide rails, beefy barrels. Get you a 220, you won't regret it.

Capacity is the only weak point of these guns.

Curious. Did Sig change the frame or beef it up in any way in their 220 10mm when compared to the older P220 Stainless Elite?

The way it was explained to me, it was redesigned so the aluminum frame 220's couldn't be easily swapped to 10mm.

This, and the ability to swap it onto the P227 frame, which is what they should have based it on to begin with IMHO.

Yes, I have no doubt the gun is built to handle hgh power loads, everything about it screams overbuilt. It is a beast and I love it.

I bought one in November to hopefully be my hunting gun. Well the P220 is ready just never found any deer in range. Smooth machine. I can actually shoot 50 yds with good consistancy and thr holes are clse together. Best combinaton of power, and shootability.  Far superior to the G gun I have.

I've went Sig nuts. Sold both of the Glocks I carried. I now have a P320-M17, and a P320 Carry in .40. I need to find a .357 SIG barrel.

But this 10mm, man oh man, it is a beauty, Black Nitron Beauty :D

I jumped on a nitron version about a year ago. Yes, it's a beast. If you run out of ammo you could throw the thing at someone and probably take 'em out!

Haven't put more than 500 rd's down range through my new 10mm P220 Hunter, but yes, it's built like a tank with a really sweet trigger to be sure, love this pistol as well
