A friend of mine just inherited a Win 94 Wild Bill Hickok edition in 30-30. It looks like the gun hasn't been fired. It has the stamped carrier, which is stuck in the down position, but it's not fully down. The loading gate will open, but you can't insert a round in the mag. When you operate the lever it opens with a hitch in it about 3/4 of the way. The carrier doesn't move at all.
I've seen under the carrier jams before, but this is a new one for me. This looks to be a post 64 pre AE rifle. Anyone seen this before?
I've had a few hang up over the years but I don't recall any of them being stamped parts. Of those I've had malfunction all that was needed was disassembly, clean, and reassemble to fix the issue. It was usually just trash got inside the mech and jammed the carrier. Might give it a scrubbing and see what you have.
Thanks Trapper, this one is really clean inside. I think the original owner had problems with it out of the box and just put it in a closet. I'll probably end up taking it apart just to see if I can fix it and what went wrong.
I've had 3 Win 94 30-30s, still have 2. The pre 64 has a carrier that looks to be milled from a billet or casting, as does the one purchased new in 1980. The post 64 I no longer have came in a trade and the carrier in that one was different and appeared to be stamped. A few friends were quick to tell me that was the one you don't want as they're prone to bending. In the two "good ones," the carriers have square edges and are in the white. The stamped one had rounded edges and an applied black finish. As does the Wild Bill problem child my friend inherited.
