Title: Anybody carrying the XDm 5.25"er?
Post by: SHOOT1SAM on January 08 2020 07:03:40 PM MST
Hey all,

I'm looking HARD at an Xdm 5.25" pistol...the thing that is throwing me is the cut-out on the slide.  It just seems top me that this'll be nothing but a lint & dust catcher when carrying.

PLEASE do not come back and suggest the 4.5"er-I'm not interested (at least at this point) in it.  Unless I missed something, NONE of the rest of the full-size XD's have this cut-out.  Does anyone here have experience carrying the 10mm XDm?

Sam

All of the 5.25" XDm's have the cutout on the slide.  My 9mm that I use for competition does, as does my 5.25 in .45.  Never had a problem with dust and dirt when using for competition, and I've put thousands of rounds through both.  And I don't detail clean my comp guns; just wipe down and spray on lube when needed.  If you're worried about it being an issue for carry, be diligent about keeping it clean.

Thanks Ronin.  So, the slide cutout is 'standard' on the XDm's?  I guess I was looking at 5.25"ers that weren't XDm's (I admit that I don't know a lot about the XD pistols).

It's my understanding that the slide cutout in the 10mm 5.25" gun makes the slide the same weight as the 4.5" guns. The same springs can be used in both guns. Perhaps others can confirm this. Makes sense from a parts and manufacturing standpoint.

Evening SHOOT1SAM,
I totally understand your concern with the slide cut regarding lint, dust, as well as other problematic things that could clog up the works. As for my carry weapons, they are cleaned monthly regardless of use, and are lightly lubricated. With a cleaning schedule such as this, over lubrication can not only cause excessive lint build up, but could also be a primmer killer. This is unlikely,  but is still part of my though process
Thanks

Ken

Specifically the 5.25" XDm pistols.  The shorter versions of the XDm do not have the cutout.

Yep, guess I was thinking of something else...regardless (right or wrong) light lubrication has always been my rule of thumb
Thanks

PRP makes excellent textured decals that match up with the current grip lines. I have very sweaty hands and the gun doesn't move at all in my grip with the prp stickers.
