Title: 180 grain XTP or Gold Dot
Post by: Star Child on December 25 2019 06:46:36 AM MST
I want to load some 180 grain bullets for my Glock G29.  Will be using 8.3 grains of BE-86, which bullet would be best for self defense, and hunting.  The XTP or Gold Dot.  The XTP is about Ten Dollar a box cheaper.  Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Both will work well, the Gold Dot being a bonded bullet will hold together more and expand a little larger.

I prefer the XTP 180gr myself. Lower cost and very accurate. Based on the tests I have seen it seems to be just about perfect for self defense at factory ammo velocities:

According to a couple of pulldowns The Shadow did and posted, the Hornady factory load uses 8.0 grains of BE-86

Thanks everyone.  I think I will stick with the 180 XTP, I have some on hand.  What primers are y'all using?  I have some Winchester WLP primers, will that work well?  Thanks
