Just ordered 500 X-Treme 180gr plated bullets to load some range loads for my XDm10. Just looking for moderate loads to practice/plink with. I think these plated bullets cant be driven much past 1200fps without damaging plating if I remember right.
Anybody use these with any success? Any pet loads you would like to share?
I loaded up some Berry's 180 Grain TC plated bullets with 6.7 grains of Unique and a coal of 1.260", using Winchester LP primers.
I got 967 fps Average from my Glock 29, 1042 from my Witness full-size and 1035 from my 1911 HC. Extreme spread was about 60 fps, and the standard deviation was about 17 fps. This is basically 40S&W power level.
They shot fine and accuracy was minute of aluminum can.
Run the.xtreme 180s all the time with Blue dot.
10.2gr is a very accurate load
Not to fast for plated
I'm running the 180s with 5.2 or so grains of Win 231/HP38. They shoot well. 40 S&W-like load.
Other than lowlight flash issues, BD can produce some very accurate loads : )
BTW, re plated from Xtreme
Our Copper Plated Bullets can be run at mid-range jacketed velocities or higher end lead velocities. We recommend keeping velocities to less than 1500 FPS (Feet Per Second) and using only a light taper crimp
Any velocities over 1200 FPS we recommend either our Heavy Plate Concave Base or Hollow Point products for superior accuracy. We recommend keeping velocities to less than 1500 FPS (Feet Per Second) and using only a light taper crimp
Good info, Thanks!
Anybody using AA #5, HP-38(231) or TightGroup?
4given, Those should work well for the application even at the upper limits...
For 231 powder, I loaded 5.5grs under a 180gr Rainier plated bullet last year. Accuracy was okay if a 2" group at 25 yds puts a smile on the face. REAL easy to shoot, low recoil! I also tried 9.2grs of AA5 under a 180gr jacketed HST but I got no love accuracy wise- about a 4" group at 25 yds.
I loaded some up with 8.0 grains of AA #5 last night to test. I hope to get to the range after Christmas and test them out.
