Title: Speeding Up The Reloading Process
Post by: mr.revolverguy on November 24 2019 08:51:51 AM MST
I have always looked at every opportunity to speed up reloading processes outside of operating the press. Trimming and brass sorting is very time consuming. After getting my trimming process down I started to look at brass sorting, there just had to be a better way. Low and behold there sure is.

This is why the sorter comes in handy, I am halfway through this mixed bucket in 6 minutes.

This is a sort with the 45ACP/44Magnum/50AE&500S&W tray. I can only see 1 piece of brass in the wrong bucket.

Awesome machine!  Wish I had one.

However, an old drag race axiom comes to mind: speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?  ;)

Been trying a long time to have my country gun club sell the brass people leave behind. They send a 5 yard dump truck to the land fill every month. Most of it is pistol brass. I gave them this info and it looked good until they found out what it costs. Don't know how long something like this would last under that kinda load but I think there would be more brass than we could sell anyway. As of now we clean all of the ranges every week with a front end loader. Incredible how much brass there is in just a week especially when the entire county's population is under 23,000. Our gun club president talks about brass like it's the plague.

Since posting this I have had a number of others contact me some of them professional brass sorters for selling online. Many were inquiring about me getting in that business a few others was just sharing experience. One guy has been running his for about 10 hours a dayon average for the last two years. He said that Sunday is really the only day it does not get run and it is still going strong.

I've been talking to friends of mine that own an indoor range about this for years. They sell the brass people leave to a scrap metal dealer dirt cheap. The same guy also takes the bullet remains from their traps. If they sorted by caliber and just sold it, unprocessed, by the pound, they'd make more money. Oh well, at least I get to take as much as I want from there.
