Title: G-40 gets deer one shot DRT.
Post by: Roguer on November 17 2019 08:24:09 PM MST
Well in from field to day.  Got a deer in one shot DRT with my Glock 40 with factory irons in near low light conditions. Nice neck shot with its head down. Its a not so special deer but it will be good eating! I think the Hornady XTP had a lot to do with the enhanced deer dropping.  ;D

One field report is my Alpha Wolf 10mm barrel don't seem to like Hornady XTPs as I got FTL or FT (Failure to Load or  Failure to chamber, Stopped on ramp in to chamber) most of the time I racked a round. I did have one in the chamber and only needed one shot for the deer, other wise I never would of taken the shot if I wasn't sure of a clean kill. Don't know if I need to break it in with more FMJs or what. The DT 200 grain hard cast worked great in it, reason why I still had my Alpha Wolf barrel in the G40. Well guess time to put the original glock barrel back in for now. I'll rack a few more various hollow points in there to see if they FTC/FTL as well. I have Sig V-crown and Ficco both 180 gr HPs for stuff and see if they load or not when loading with the slide.

Editcus: Realized I had the wrong terminology.

I admit it I used the wrong Tacti-terminolgy when describing what happened. I hope this don't hurt my Tacti-Cred!  :o

It wasn't a FTF it was a failure to chamber properly. I was tired when I posted it.

Nice to hear the G40 worked well. The Alpha Wolf barrel did you try polishing the feed ramp and slightly polish the chamber?  I ask because that's what I heard has helped others with failure to feed. Anyways I love my G40 best load so far has been 10.6grs of Blue Dot under an Acme 200gr TCFP stock barrel runs a little over 1300fps with ruffly 767fbs of energy accuracy has been good too.

Might be some meloniting residue that might cleaning maybe?

I tried loading Fiocchi 10mm Auto 180 Grain JHPs in a whole full mag and they cycled fine in the alpha wolf barrel. The Hornady 180 XTP didn't with jam ups even in a few rounds in a few other mags. But the Hornady's work fine in the original Glock Barrel, so that's what I got loaded for now. I had DT 200 Hardcasts loaded so needed to use the Alphawolf, they cycle fine in it.

I have yet to try my older SS (none melonited) Lonewolf barrels yet.

Seeing that Nosler 180 10mm JHP on sale for $20 a box of 50 got me cred card itching.

Its the 6 inch barrel and sight radius that made the shot easier. Besides a few other things I practiced with.

Afternoon Roguer, Irons are the only way I have taken deer with my 10's, and have never gone far after a 180, or 200gr hit. Congratulations, it's an awesome feeling

I want to get a good RD, nice thing about the G40 is if the RD fails you can take it off and still got irons.
