Title: PMC Eldordo Starfire 180gr HP
Post by: Intercooler on March 14 2013 03:55:49 AM MDT
I'm looking for a box of these in the 10mm version for testing if anyone comes across them.

I have been wondering about these in 10mm. The Starfire bullet was designed by Tom Burczynski, the same guy who designed the Federal Hydrashok bullet.

I think they are loaded light for 10, but they do show nice expansion in the .40 S&W.

I shot them back in the day. But I have not seen them in many years. Are they even still in production?

Just for trivia, does anyone remember what I called the "Fearless Fosdick" bullets also from PMC? They where a solid copper TUBE bullet Only offered in 38&44 Special calibers.

PMC Ultramag.  Very light, very high velocity.  ATF cancelled them because they would defeat body armor.

Pretty easy to make some up in 357/38 with some 3/8" OD copper tubing and a .357" push through sizing die.  Cut to length, push through the die and crimp a gas check on the bottom.

For .400 looks like you would have to either bump 3/8" tubing up in a swaging die with a custom made mandrel, or by sizing a 1/2" pipe down. Either of those sounds like a bit more effort.

Would anyone be willing to load up and try some swaged hp's if I can purchase them? I do believe they are 190gr.

Too bad the Starfires aren't available as a component bullet.

I will be interested to see how the New Berry's Plated Hollow Points  do when they hit the market for handloaders.

I contacted BT Sniper about getting some swaged bullets made up. If he says okay then I have to twist Chopinbloc's arm. 8)

I saw advertisements. And I'll try some when I find them. I have shot three or four boxes of the 155fp bullets thru my G23 and like them with 231 powder.
