Anybody else here have one of these? I bought one recently and noticed a few issues with it. I think I may have remedy the problem but have yet to take it back to the range. Was wondering if anybody else had issues or wanted to share what their experiences had been with this model.
Jtigertic, Welcome to the forum. What type issues were you experiencing? What ammo where you running that you had issue with?
Best regards and enjoy the forum! :D
Tried a couple different types of ammo and had jams where bullet would get stuck halfway into the chamber. I tried cycling the gun without firing it and had the same issue as I looked closer I could see a spot on each casing where it looked like a smiley so I inspected the ramp and chamber to find a small sharp edge where the ramp transitioned into the chamber. I didn't want to send the gun in and have to wait so I used my dremel with a rubber polishing bit to clean it up and re polished with some compound and felt. Next trip to the range no issues with that but had some rounds not going fully into battery. So after further inspection with that I found that the chamber was so tight that most of the factory ammo didn't have enough crimp and was slowing everything down as it was sticking in the chamber a little. So I went through and crimped the factory ammo just a little tighter until it would plunk into the barrel and fall back out. So after all that it is now running like a top not a single hiccup since. Though I've only run about 100 rounds through it since figuring out what was causing the issues. Just wondered if Springfield was having some quality control issues, if I just got a Friday at 4:30 gun or if they are just still figuring out how to make a 10mm that runs well? I have a 1911 range officer in 45 that's seen over 2000 rounds and never a single jam and never had to touch anything on the gun.
Glad you were able to work through the issues with your RO Elite. I was thinking maybe the extractor hook may have been on the tight side.
My 6" RO seems to be running fine. Had a few fail to go into battery on the inital 3-4 mags.
My particular example seems to be made tight, so I have kept her lubed and she seems to have got better.
Mine was doing the exact same thing. I modified the extractor hook and it helped a little. I fitted a square firing pin stop and a 20# recoil spring. It has run like a top with Tripp 9 and 10 round and Metalform mags. It never locked open but now it does. Just thought I would throw that out.
