Title: Most effective gun rights groups other than the NRA
Post by: Kenk on May 03 2019 02:56:01 PM MDT
So if you wanted to put your hard earned money on an effective gun rights group other than the NRA, who would get your vote? I will likely continue with the NRA at this point, but am looking at other groups as well
Thanks

Ken

SAF tops my list.

But I support SAF, GOA and NRA.

SAF's webpage says:

"We are dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms. To that end, we carry on many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate."

Doesn't say anything about trying to convince legislators they should vote down gun control bills ... that's where "the rubber meets the road" in my opinion.

GOA's webpage sounds similar to NRA, but how many members do they have, and do they have the resources NOW to have the kind of impact that the NRA has had?  And do the libs want to destroy them as much as the want to destroy the NRA?

SAF lawyers were the lead on Heller and McDonald.  I will take case law that lasts generations over lobbying that has to be done over every session.

GOA
SAF

Give generously to both!

Sounds like GOA, SAF are the top contenders. At this point in time, I think I need to  join both organizations, considering the juncture we are embarking on.
Thanks Folks!

Gun Owners of America and Second Amendment Foundation are better.

Smaller groups like Lone Star Gun Rights are also good. You can find groups like that in each state.

I support the NRA (life member) because they are so large but I think they have horrible tact and I also think they are overly political. I never really heard the real pro-gun arguments until I heard about Gun Owners of America.

Honestly if people would just join groups like GOA or SEF for $20/year as well as the more expensive NRA it would do wonders for gun rights. A common criticism is oh they are smaller and won fewer lawsuits well guess why lol because so many gun owners who agree with them 100% who would support civil war if there were a gun ban, don't put 2 and 2 together and support the less corrupt gun rights organizations they actually agree with.

Don't know where you live Ken but I'd be looking at a local state organization before a national one. You'd be surprised what can be accomplished. In Texas, we are guaranteed our gun rights by our State Constitution. I'm a Life Member NRA but I don't identify with it anymore. I haven't since Neal Knox was escorted to the door. That's when LaPew and his crony's started skimming money from the NRA and it hasn't stopped despite several of the employees at the NRA showing where the money is being siphoned off. If you just want to join a national bunch, the GOA is the old Neal Knox bunch. I believe his son is now running the show. While I knew Neal thru my FIL who was on the Board of Directors at the NRA, I don't know anything about GOA and what it has become. Do the research. But truthfully, anything is better than the NRA these days.

Thanks Trapper, and yes, Minnesota has an awesome "fight for the average Joes 2ed Amendment rights" group. Thanks man!

One that many of you might consider is Oath Keepers. This is primarily retired military, retired and active law enforcement that are sworn they will not be part of ANY gun confiscation. They're a pretty active and aggressive bunch. I forgot I am a member. If you Facebook, they have a page and send out what they are working on and if any action is needed by you like calling your congressman. Give them a look. I'd recommend these guys over the NRA or any other association as they stay on top of what's going on.

If you're in Michigan, these guys deserve a look. https://mcrgo.org One of the things I like most about them is they offer free CPL instructor training and very inexpensive support. Very active in promoting concealed carry rights, but not limited to that.
