180 or 165? I just purchased a 1006 and will start loading when I get the bullets, but I am not sure which weight works better. I have some 9mm that prefer my 147 loads and some that prefer my 124's. I am not loading to thermonuclear levels. Yet. Just starting to develop 10mm loads. Any thoughts? Does it matter to your guns when just plinking?
I will more than likely be using Blu Dot to push them.

Matt, Welcome to the forum! I used every weight bullet in my S&W1006 and it likes and runs with any of them. I like the heavier bullets for hunting and defensive use. But the 165's I have loaded will be trusted as well. I also shoot several weights of cast bullets which add to my range time practice
I do use a lot of Blue Dot and it works well in those weights...

Welcome to the forum bigbluebuckeye! When just plinking, especially with you tailoring your own loads, either weight will work just as well as the other.
Beyond plinking it depends on what you have possibilies of running into that need defending against. Against human threats I prefer 155gr and 165gr Gold Dots. If Black Bear are in the picture I prefer 200gr XTP bullets. But that's just me, and plenty of other opinions exist that greatly vary from my own. Best of Luck in your quest!
don't take this the wrong way, but if i want a 180gr bullet i would stay with the .40SW... for me with the 10mm it is 200gr, and i would like to develop some loads for the 220gr
I use 180 the most, just because thats what I had cases of from reloading 40sw before I got into 10mm.

You make a fair point in terms of bullet weight on it's own. But one thing cool with 180gr in 10mm to some of us is pushing a 180gr to +1350fps from less than 5" of barrel. Ain't no 40S&W gonna come close. But I get it, speed doesn't do it for everyone, hence bullets heavier than 40S&W normally caters to. 8)

It is. I know of some who push the 135gr Noslers to 1700fps from 6" barrels. I haven't YET. ;D

To your original question...I would suggest whatever is cheap. For your first reloads i wouldn't fret too much about weight or brand. Just get some bullets and make some ammo. Over time you will develop your own opinions. Like several others here I favor heavy bullets. 180, 200, 210 grain. But lots of guys like 'em light and fast.

I agree. Guns are much like people/guys... some like Blonds others like brunets, others still like warm bodies. ;) Guns are the same, Mine could be one digit of SN different and NOT like a 155g while yours could drill gnats at 50 yards with them... Buy what you can and let the gun tell you what it likes...
Having said that... I like 155/165 in my 40 S&W and 180/200+ in my 10MM. I very much subscribe to the heavy projectile crew. Much like Torque of a engine... Horse power is a nice number to brag on but it the torque that moves things. ;)

This. Why I drive a diesel. Wish I still had a diesel SUV, but I couldn't stomach to repair costs on a 6.0L Excursion anymore, and live in an area where i have to get smogged once a year, so EGR delete is not possible.
