Title: DT 180 Gr GDHP
Post by: Taterhead on April 21 2019 11:54:37 AM MDT
Does anyone know the type of powder DT is using for the 180 gr GDHP?

9.2 gr. Flattened spherical powder. Granules are smaller than LS but larger than the Accurate powders. Doesn't look like any powders I have on hand.

The primer looks like Rem.

1205 fps through the G20. About perfect for what I want.

Not looking to reproduce this ammo, just curious about the propellant. Could get to that velocity with several different powders pretty easily. But I don't carry hand loads.

Taterhead, without seeing what you found it would be a little hard to determine the specific powder.  Longshot is what he usually uses and 9.2 grains fits the powder profile, but velocity would likely be slightly higher that 1200 fps and closer to 1230 fps.  Its possible he too may have changed the powder to something different.

However Hodgdon has HS-6 powder that is close to 1200 fps using 9.3 grains @ 1127 fps
The new Winchester 224 won't make the numbers, CFE Pistol & AutoComp would be way over.
