Title: Ranger T 147gr vs Ranger T 124gr +
Post by: Kenk on April 05 2019 08:44:27 PM MDT
Evening,
So is my thinking correct that the Ranger T 147gr / standard pressure 9mm would be better suited for a service level / full size pistol, and that the 124gr + P would be more ideal for a short barrel pistol
Thanks folks!

Ken

Don't think there is a dafinative correct answer, just personal opinions.
In the warm or hot months when likely to be wearing shorts; Sometimes carry 9mm S&W Shield.  For several years it was loaded with 147gr Ranger T....

Shooting The Bull did a test using 147gr in a short pistol and it did very well.

I was confident it would perform as advertised; thank goodness never had to find out how well it worked in real life!

However last summer, decided to give 135gr Federal Hydra Shok Deep a try.  Bought enough to test it out and ensure proper function in the Shield and started carrying it.

Certainly nothing wrong with the Ranger T.  Still have it in several of my 9mm pistols and it might find its way back into the Shield at some point.

Thanks Rojo, seems like I read some place that the 124 + P performed better in short barrel guns than the 147gr. I ordered some of the 147's for my XDm 4.5 yesterday in hopes they world out perform my recent purchase of the 124 + P T series. I'm pretty sure either one will work adequately in my full size XDm
Thanks
