Title: HORNADY 10MM GMX
Post by: terdog on March 28 2019 07:58:19 AM MDT
I sent Hornady an email asking about them making a 10mm hog hunting rnd with the GMX.
Thought that I'd share their response ...

Mr. H,

You are not alone in your interest in a GMX type of round for the larger caliber handgun cartridges and a GMX bullet; I can tell you that it has been brought up and discussed however, I have no idea how close we may or may not be in seeing it become a reality. Keep writing and expressing your interest in such a round.
Thank You,
TZ"

A 200 grain copper monolithic bullet is going to be a challenge. The length will encroach greatly into the case reducing powder capacity.

Also in my experience the monolithic bullets tend to perform better at higher velocities.

I'd concur with the notion that a 200gr copper monolith bullet very likely
probably not a good combination with 10mm.  Copper is more dense so it
would definitely take up much more space in the case (than a lead projectile)
and the copper alloys do take pretty serious velocity to function.  They don't
shed weight unless driven so hard petals break off.  IMHO 155gr & down is the
sweet spot for copper projectiles in 10mm (pistol).

Not sure where the 200 number came from, since they have no specs yet. I can definitely see Hornady coming up with a winner.

They sure do.

I would prefer a conventional lead core jacketed bullet in 10mm.  Like a 200gr Speer Deep Curl Flat Point.
