Title: Anyone use/have an opinion on Sig Sauer 10mm brass
Post by: MT Cowboy on March 24 2019 02:22:19 PM MDT
New to the 10mm but not handloading (30+ yrs). When I bought my first 10mm last month Sig brass was what I could find in stock so I picked up 200 of them.  Anyone have opinions on it as far as quality/longevit/case capacity? It's the only 10mm brass I have, so nothing to compare it with

Sig brass seemed to be pretty good, not sure who is making the brass for them, but it may be Jagemann and they make a quality product.
The Sig brass seemed to take the heavier loads fairly well that they were loading to...
This was the Sig 180 FMJ's tested
Glock 29   velocity     1178    case expansion    0.4315"
Glock 20   velocity     1250    case expansion    0.4315"
Glock 20   velocity     1260      case expansion    0.4315"
S&W 1006   velocity     1276    case expansion    0.4265"
S&W 1006   velocity     1286    case expansion    0.4270"

I will add that I pass through size all of my 10mm, 40S&W, 357SIG and 9x25 Dillon brass through the LEE FCD die with the upper guts removed, to uniform every piece of brass.  When you are dealing with semi auto you want 100% reliability!

I default to Starline, but have recently reloaded sig brass ...

Fired in my g20, had no issues resizing, no issues with good tension on plated xtreme bullet

It's good brass, not as malleable as Starline but it does seem to last just as long. I might even go as far as saying it is better.

Shadow, At what point in the process do you pass them through the Lee FCD?

Well after they are shot and ready for resizing, I run all cases through the LEE FCD as a pass through setup (Bulge Buster).  Why?
Yes it is an extra step in the process, but in my opinion it is worth the effort.  As the case is pushed up and through the carbide ring of the FCD, it uniforms the case top to bottom and even the case rim as well.  It can help the actual primer pocket too.
Most standard sizing dies don't reach, this is due to the radius at the opening of the sizer die (Carbide Ring) and the shell holder or plate occupying the space, even with the die touching.
Because the case expansion can be very low as just above the start of the extractor cut (this is where I actually measure for expansion).
New cases run 0.4215" (Starline) - 0.4220" (most other brands), anything over 0.4230 is probably going to give issues fitting a cartridge case gauge.

Thanks for the info guys.  I hope to get to the bench in a day or two and get some place worked up.  As I said New caliber to me, New gun, and a tough winter has my trigger finger twitching.  Gun is a sr1911 target.  Was bought mainly as a woods defense gun, lots of toothy critters  here in N W Montana and tired of packing around a bulky revolver.

Thanks for sharing the expansion data, The_Shadow.  When I first read the pass thru part, I immediately thought "Bulge Buster"., and a few posts later you confirmed.  Interesting that you BB all fires cases, and your explanation is sound.

MT Cowboy, I use the SIG brass and have found it to be reliable and issue-free.

Sig brass works for me.

When I reload, I don't use a full resizer.  95%+ of the brass does work in the no-go gauge.
So it fires well in the G20 and Sig 220/ 10mm .

The small amount that doesn't fit the gauge goes in a separate bucket as it works just fine in the G20.

All depends on what gun you need your reloads for... but it is nice when they will fit in any 10mm.

I've reloaded Sig brass and used it 3 times so far in my Grand Power. No signs of cracking, no excessive stretching and of course no bulges. It is GTG from my view, though I do have 99% Starline. I just have the Sig from my carry ammo and shoot and replace that monthly.
