I had a chance to shoot and chronograph the new Federal HST 200 grain load today.
SIG P220 5": 1120, 1117, 1117, 1109, 1112, 1095, average 1112 fps
Glock 20 4.6": 1092, 1090, 1081, 1091, 1092, average 1089 fps
A bit below the factory 1130 fps rating.
FMS1890. thanks for the chrono work! Which chrono did you test with?
Glad to see that they got close to their advertised numbers. Many test with a 5.5" test fixture as they pressure test...
Shadow - It's a ProChrono.
Where did you buy hem from.
They are out of stock at the seller I bought them from, but AmmoSeek lists a couple of sellers as having them.
I've got some coming, I ordered mine through targetsportsusa.com
$1.25 per cartridge plus shipping.... :o Even more at other retailers. :(
Even Speer 200gr bonded Gold Dot can be found for $5.00 less for 20 count box on same site.
Proven performer like Underwood 200gr XTP found $14.59 a box on ammoseek.com.....
Wait, I thought they were making the HydraShok Deep, I didnt know there was an HST for 10mm. I'm excited.
I found them, I'm sold. I will be buying enough to fill all my mags. New carry load. In my travels, a 29 is 7% slower than the 20. So it should be 1015 or so from the short barrel.
I wrote Federal about the HST. I asked about the slower speeds, which barrel they test with, if it was a new bullet, and if it would perform at 1000 fps from a Glock 29.
Quote from: Federal PremiumThe bullet in P10HST1S is a new projectile designed specifically for 10mm. All HST projectiles are unique designs for their respective loads. This velocity was selected as it's as fast as it could be pushed before a reduction in performance or excessive pressure. Pushing HST projectiles excessively fast tends to result in shorter penetration depths or loss of weight retention due to early, rapid expansion. Faster does not necessarily result in better terminal performance in defensive handgun loads. We set the requirements for optimal terminal performance, and develop the load to meet those requirements. Pressures needs to be checked at different temperatures. Most of the ultra-hot loaded products on the market exceed spec once you test to different temperature extremes. Velocity testing was conducted in a 5" test barrel. Terminal performance testing is conducted through several handgun platforms. Terminal performance for this load will be excellent in all platforms mentioned in the inquiry. Thank You Federal Ammunition Tech Services
I believe I'm going to start testing these for carry in my Glock 29. Albeit, they will only average 1015-1020 fps from the 3.77" barrel, but I carry mine with a 4.6" barrel. I've never seen an HST that didn't perform well.
Love me some HST's hate me some hydro-shock bull crap. bring on the 10!!!!!
Yep, the best price I found was $23.95 for 20rd's, with some as high as $34.00 😂

Question I have is, if you used a longer barrel gun, what difference would the velocities be ? Is it true faster ?

I'll be doing them tomorrow or Thursday with g29, g20, g40, and g40 with kkm 6.5" barrel
I'll post a video eventually
Welcome AlaskanBallistics, keep the great videos coming!
