I happened to run across an article touting the 10mm for CCW, in the Daily Caller today. Just a dozen or so paragraphs, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it there. Maybe it will make a few more people aware of the great cartridge that is 10mm. Hopefully, the attempt to link and attach a photo will be successful.

No offense or anything, but that's a bit of a crappy article.
QuoteLight loads are basically a .40 S&W with a longer case. Medium loads are about equal to most .357 Magnum loads. Handloaders have long bemoaned how diluted 10mm factory loads are, so it's capable of .41 Magnum power levels.
Not exactly.
QuoteThere are plenty of 10mm pistols out there, be in no doubt. The bulk of them, however, are 1911-pattern guns.
The bulk? That maybe used to be true, but I bet sales of Glock 10mm's (20,29,40) alone are more than all 1911 10mm guns sold in 2019.
He just seems to be awfully behind the folks on this board for something written Feb 9 2019
QuoteCompacts in 10mm are rare (I'm aware of three, two of which are Glocks and one is made by Tanfoglio) so you'd better be up for packing a full-size if you're determined to carry a 10mm pistol.
The two compact Glocks threw me. If you seach Glock's website for 10mm guns, though, sure enough. Glock 29 Gen3 SF and Glock 29 Gen 4. Talk about splitting hairs.
And I also take issue with the idea that a 10mm can be loaded to 41 mag levels. Yes, it can match the downloaded 41 mag silvertips meant for personal defense. But, those are downloaded. It has always been funny to me that 10mm hardcore kool-aid drinkers cry foul when 40 S&W is compared to watered down 10mm ammo, then compare the 10mm to watered down 41 mag ammo. The 41 mag is going to best the 10mm by about 100 fps for comparable bullet weights and comparable barrel lengths.
But, the article makes some solid points too. The 10mm is one of the best all around pistol cartridge out there. It covers bases from deep cover to hunting big game, with plenty of magazine capacity.
While the author gives credence to our beloved firearms chambered in our favorite 10mm cartridge, the article really doesn't convey the versatility of the cartridge for the many bullet weights and styles available. No actual energy figures were displayed for a reader to explore the who, how and what can be achieved from a semi auto performance package in 10mm. Sure it's one millimeter bigger in diameter, but the bullet's sectional density, weights and energy far exceed that of the one millimeter less...
When we look to real velocity data the 10mm as we know it performs quite well across the spectrum of bullet weights and styles be it commercially loaded or handloaded performance!
His article could have used a phrase near the ending like "But Wait! There's More!" :o LOL

Agree. Basically to summarize, nothing really new to a reader of this website
I agree that the standard factory 10mm is downloaded to similar ballistics as .40 S&W ballistics. That's why I only carry Underwood Ammo 10mm cartridges. Xtreme Penetrator 140gr 10mm is listed at 1,500 fps/700 ft lbs of energy. Regular, watered down 10mm from Sig, Federal, and other manufacturers exhibit ballistics similar to .40 S&W. I have a .41 magnum S&W revolver and the felt recoil on my factory Remington 210 gr SP rounds is stouter than my 10mm, and is listed at 1,500 fps for the 210 gr bullets and 1,135 ft lbs of energy. However, the .40 S&W loads that I was issued for duty in my agency was a Federal 155gr JHP with ballistics listed at 1140 fps/445 ft lbs. The 10mm Underwood Ammo 140gr Xtreme Penetrator is clearly superior to .40 S&W, or 9mm, or .45 ACP ammunition. .41 magnum is clearly superior to 10mm, but, for a duty or carry weapon, 10mm is a lot easier to handle and qualify with. I'm sticking with my 10mm for EDC.

The Gen 3 guns are still, being made for California. WE cannot have the newer Gen 4 or 5 guns.
