This is kind of a fun video for those of us that like the magnums.

Good video, but I was expecting more velocity from what he said was factory ammo 1341 fps with 240 grain bullets.
I get more from my S&W mod 29 44 magnum rounds...1360-1370 fps 8 3/8" bbl with 240 grain stuff.
The guns he was shooting were 6 1/2" barrels including chamber so it is like a 5" revolver barrel. I've shot the SBR ammo but have never chronographed it. It is hot stuff but like the guy in the video, I do not shoot hot reloads in mine.
A friend of mine chronographed the SBR 240's in three barrel lengths of Auto Mags.
6.5" Vent Rib
1372
1341
1390
1371

Average is 1368.4
8.5" (Magnaported, non vent rib)
1459

1443

Average is 1454
10.5" Non Vent Rib
1529

1546
Average is 1544
So it looks like 2" gets you about 90 fps.
Those are more of what I would have expected in the 8.5"
Again, that 8 1/2" barrel is like a 7" revolver and the 10 1/2" is like a 9".
Believe me when I say you know you have shot something when you pull the trigger on one of the SBR's. If you watch the slow motion you will see there is quite a bit of flip caused by the bolt moving back also.
The owner of the New Auto Mag Company is wanting them to load a more modest load as he feels that they are really too hot for most of his customers needs.
My Speer #9 book shows some loads for the 44 Auto Mag they are using less powder than the load I use in my S&W M 29
The Speer and Hornady manuals had loads that were way under powered.
When Lee Jurras of Super Vel was loading the AMP's, he loaded them up to between 45 and 50,000 CUP. Jurras tested some of Kent Lomonts loads on the Super Vel pressure barrels and they were bumping up against 65,000 psi.
Here is a slow motion video of a 44 AMP firing. Notice how the whole upper assembly moves back about 3/8" before the bolt opens. Watch the rear sight in recoil.

Wow the sights looked like they were about to snap off...
I looked back at my loads.
I hunted whitetail with a 629 and 240 grain bullets on top of 23.3 grains of H110.
I never hunted with the Auto Mag. My load I shot with good function and accuracy is 21 grains of H110. I loaded up to 23 grains but no higher.
I did load 180 grain bullets on top of 29 grains of H110 and that is way too much blast out of a 6 1/2" Auto. No fun but lots of show.
Jurras always shot 25 or 26 grains of 296 and they test at 45,000 CUP. Lomont didn't publicize his max loads but Jurras would not shoot them in his guns.
I have some SBR ammo here, maybe I will send you a couple for a pulldown. I would be curious as to what they are doing.
SBR maybe using some of the Shooters World powders, they are rebranded LOVEX powders...
possibly HEAVY PISTOL D037-02 which is very close to Accurate #9 by weight and yield
what a cool pistol!
I see that SBR is loading 3 different bullet weights now in the AMP. Here is their catalog page.

I see that they have the 357 AMP listed as coming soon. That surprises me.
