Title: Midway USA slowing down in recent years?
Post by: Bruno747 on January 17 2019 07:07:13 PM MST
Curious if anyone else has noticed this.

A few years ago if I ordered by noon, my order almost always shipped same day. The it turned into next day, then two days. I have a new record. Ordered some stuff Sunday night hoping to be ready for a Prairie dog destruction session on Monday 1/21.

Still no tracking number this afternoon. I'd say its clear I wont have any of it in time. Nothing is on back order. When I chatted with them today, they said they are backed up from the holidays. What holiday? I hope they aren't backed up all the way from Christmas and New Years.

Guess I'll have to go all big bore on those noisy dynamic targets. A Beowulf round usually throws them a couple feet  ;D I also have a whole mess of 135gr noslers to huck at them out of the XDM and P220.

At one time I always had an order coming from Midway. Prices were right, shipping wasn't huge, and service was great. Now, I can find most anything cheaper online and even some of the local GS have better prices. I haven't bought anything from them except a couple of their pistol bags that were on sale in the last several years. Shipping has gotten out of hand which is why I usually start looking for stuff at Graf and Sons. It's $7.95 shipping per order no matter what is on it. For just bullets it's either American Reloading or Everglades Reloading. That covers most everything I shoot all the time. Midway, they're too high on shipping and prices. If you're an Amazon customer, be aware that you can locally cheaper now. As an example, I bought an LED lantern from Amazon. Gave $36.00 for it. Saw it at Walmart Tuesday for 18. That's a lot of difference.

They have went to Sure Post, or Mail Innovations, can't remember which, but both those options take waaaaay longer than standard USPS, UPS, or FedEx.

I will add that if you are prime, look at the free shipping and + shipping non-prime options as well.  If you don't need it in two days, about half the time someone else will have it cheaper.

OTOH, I did that on a dress for a daughter a couple years ago.  We had several months before the event she needed the dress for.  It got there about 5 days before drop dead date.  So sometimes the difference in ship time is measured in months.

Also, be aware the Walmart does geo-centric pricing.  I can generally get things 25-30% cheaper if I am willing to drive to the other side of the Salt Lake valley.  And Walmart won't price match a different Walmart.

Yep they cheated me again on the sure post bit. In what world is "UPS Ground" surepost/mail innovations.

Guess I can figure on Friday or Monday delivery.

Sure Post means it will surely take longer.

I quit ordering ANYTHING from Midway when they sent a $1,100 scope to me in a unpadded tyvek envelope. The scope box was destroyed, and I sent pictures of the box and packaging to Midway... never heard anything back. Luckily the scope was ok, but they'll never get another nickel of my money.

Finally got everything today by giving UPS an extra $3.50 to upgrade from sure post to ground like the package should have been to start with.

Man that was a stretch for a company that used to get stuff to me next day with base shipping.

I wouldn't want to be a prairie dog this weekend :)

Very slow as of late. I may buy a good deal and wait with Midway, but generally shop elsewhere. PSA deals beat Midway, but Midway has a wider range of product obviously.

Primary Arms is the best go to seller online as far as I am concerned. Those guys just flat A ship quickly.

Beware PSA and credit card theft.  For awhile they had a leak and a high number of cards used there were compromised.  The general rule of thumb has become to use a gift visa card that was procured in the amount of the purchase.

I have not ordered much in the last year, but that is sad to hear about Midway.  They used to be great.  I second the good experiences with Primary Arms.
