Title: Well, I'm now 10mm-less
Post by: Deadguy on March 01 2013 02:20:36 AM MST
After mulling it over a few weeks, I sold my last 10mm pistol, the Fusion CCO. No, I don't regret it.

All total I shot just over 2000 rounds through it and enjoyed every minute if it. It was by far the most enjoyable to shoot out of the 4 I had owned (1006, G29, Kimber STII).  It is now with a new owner and I feel certain it will get shot another 2000 rounds.

This leaves me with a small dilemma. I have roughly 200 rounds of mixed TMJ and JHP ammo left, as well as several full size magazines. In the future I may go back to the 10, but I can't decide if I want to keep this stuff in the meantime. I'm leaning more towards staying with 45acp and eventually getting a 9mm 1911.  Tough decision.

You guys here are a fantastic group and I won't be leaving simply because I no longer have a 10.  I still remember a few things about it :)

No reason to leave. You never know what the future holds...you may get another 10 or three.  ;D

I can conceive of a day when I might not carry a 10mm everyday but I can't see ever selling it - of everything I shoot it is by far the most enjoyable. For me it sits right in the sweet spot where powerful and controllable intersect.

I remember selling my Delta Elite many years ago and being 10mm-less.  Heck, for a decade I was pistol-less.

Good luck resisting the siren song of this sweet cartridge.  I consider moving to 45 ACP from time to time.  But, never can quite make the switch.

Same here... probably because I have this image in my head of having to lob in .45s at distance ;-)

Of course ... some just can't afford to stock ammo for both, especially these days LOL

Nice Colt Commander. I have two Commanders, and every once in a while I have an itch to convert one to 10mm.

We all come to our own conclusions for ourselves.  Nothing wrong with letting go of the 10mm if other cartridges fit the bill for your needs.  My own perception for myself is that the 10mm does what I want it to better than any other cartridge in the niche I use it for, and therefore won't be leaving my ownership anytime in the foreseeable future.  Glad we don't all think the same or life could get pretty boring.

Isn't that the truth redline.

I have been considering the 9mm simply for the ease of shooting and lower price in ammo.

The good thing is that if I ever get the 10mm bug again, there are more players in the game than ever. Finding one shouldn't be too difficult

Never hurts to have that option in the stable. 9mm is MIA right now

It's definitely easier on the budget to be able to stock up on premium factory 9mm loads than any other!  I simply put up with the hurt on the budget as I'm too anal with my own reasoning of wanting 10mm to switch from 10mm based on cost alone, even though sometimes it could make life overall easier.

No doubt about that.  Also at this time it seems to me like the list of players is still only growing.  I gotta figure it's only a matter of time before someone like Smith & Wesson, Springfield, or Ruger, offers a stiker fired alternative to the Glock 10mm offerings.  Time will tell.

I think S&W M&P is in the works but they are keeping so tight lipped on it. Couldn't spend for a Glock but would for one of those  8)

I picked up another M&P, this time a 9c to have something for my wife and new shooters to try out. It's my only non-1911 with the exception of a 357 snubbie and a Bersa 22. Of all the polymers I prefer the M&P line for sure.

Doubt I go the custom route again for another 10.

I do have a stainless Springfield Armory 1911A GI in .45......I like my 10mm's MUCH better!

Well, when you reload we're talking pennies per box difference. The 230 grain RN bullets I use for .45 ACP are $128/1000 shipped. The 185 grain FRN 40bullets with  which I shoot boy 40 S&W and 10mm are $108/1000 shipped, and the 125 grain FP 9mm bullets I use are $77/1000 shipped. So for a little difference I can shoot lots of ammo.

when you cast your own bullets from free lead, the difference gets even smaller.

If I wasn't so lazy, I probably would go into casting. But with neither the inclination or the skills, I'll just buy what I know works ans STILL save big bucks. Like the last time I used a reloading calculator, I came up with a price of $7.31/50 of my favorite recipe 10mm reloads. When's the last time (if ever!) have you seen a storebought box of 10mm ammo go for that? And they are ACCURATE, too
