Hornady 180gr xtp advertised mv has increased from 1164 to 1275. Magtech 180gr fmj advertised mv has increased from 1160 to 1230. Might this be a trend?
Glad to see them up their offerings to true 10mm potentials...
Hornady 10mm 180 grain XTP specs.
BARREL LENGTH (5")
MUZZLE 1275 (FPS) VELOCITY
ENERGY 650 (FT/LB)
Magtech 10mm FMJ spec.s
Test Barrel Length: 5 inch
MUZZLE 1230 (FPS) VELOCITY
ENERGY 605 (FT/LB)
These are easily obtainable with careful handloading with several modern powders. Jacket HP's are slightly longer bullets than FMJ styles. Still many HP's will make the velocity while at safe pressures...
ok, now we are talking, i wuld buy the hronady for sure, i like the company-best customer service i have ever encountered..
Where can we find the information of the increase?
I see the changes on their web pages. The Hornady 155gr is now 1410 FPS as well. I guess I will have to wait for Cabela's to stock he new ones and grab them!
Son of a ........
I just ordered 100 rounds of Underwood 165 Gold Dots.
I'm a little curious if Hornady actually changed the 180 XTP to accommodate the extra velocity. Lucky Gunner Labs showed them at 1158fps, 17" of penetration, and about as much expansion as one would want. Those tests were out of a G20.
Anyone know how fast you need to push a 180 XTP before it fails?
This is what they used to show for performance window of 10mm XTP's

Thanks Shadow, that's good info :) Also tells me I'm pushing them a little beyond specs with my 10mm AR, at least up close.
Shadow, I have the new Hornady catalog. Ill post the performance window.
Underwood 180 XTP at 1300 fps seems perfect. I would like to see a gel test.
Couple of Andrew's videos were he has 180gr xtp running right at 1300fps

I shot 5 rounds of the Magtech 180 gr, RN today out of a new SA XD (M) today. It had some pretty good recoil. I have always felt the Magtech ammo was a little hot. I shoot the .357 Mag 158 gr SJSP and the .44 Mag 240 Gr. SJSP and those are pretty stout. I usually shoot Armscor 180's, but the Magtech's run $18.99/50. I am gonna buy a couple boxes and see how they shoot through my Glock 40.
Wow this is great news!
Anybody tries them fill us in on a range report. 8)
I bought a box of the Hornady Custom 180gr. XTP's a couple of weeks ago, the box still listed the velocity at 1,180fps. However they were chronoing @ 1,259fps out of my Witness.
Does anyone know how to tell which box the higher velocity Magtech 180's would be in? There are 2 LGS that sells the Magtech 180's near me. One is in a smaller box versus the other and both are blue and white. If the MV is printed on the box, I can't find it.
I shot some Magtech 180's out of an XDM a couple weeks ago, and there was a good amount of recoil, but I have always felt Magtech was a little harsher on the recoil.

I'd look for a box I dont recognize right off. Here are the UPC # for the 1230 fps 180 fmj
EAN Barcode (inner box):7891798097388
EAN Barcode (outer box):7891798590087
UPC Barcode (inner box):754908210916

I've found some cases of Magtech, range pickups in a couple different ranges. All have had staked primers. I wonder if this is now standard practice for Magtech. I swaged hose primer pockets, so the brass is ready to reload.
If anybody snags a box of Magtech, I'm curious if the primers are similarly staked.

I've been running Magtech in all my 10's. My G29 does well with them, although I don't chronograph them.
