Friggin' Obama gets elected, and all the people are buying up and hoarding all the reloading supplies. About the only Powders left at Powder Valley is like black powder or shotgun powder. And only primers left there are the oddball (read EXPENSIVE) ones.
It's been going on since Oct.-Nov. (this time), and getting worse as time goes by. My LGS reloader supply is actually getting primers. Slow, but getting some CCI (SP, this time). I just picked up a bunch 2 days ago for $39/1000. They are running list for orders, and call as they come in. They are playing it well, not gouging, and rationing them so everyone on the list gets some, even if it's not the amount ordered. I was 28 on the list, and got 2K of 5K ordered. Back on the list for the next shipment. I was also able to order 5K LP from an online supplier, which will be here on Monday next (about a 1 month wait). They, and every other supplier that's not charging 3X, is out of stock, or backlogged so far you may not see them until the next election. The LGS is not getting powder, to speak of.
BTW, almost every shotgun powder is also labeled handgun powder, or can be used in handgun loads.
To be fair, if (if) the "other" candidate wins at some time, there'll be a buying frenzy on flashy underwear, tofu and granola......
Yeah, I know many recipes use powders made mainly for shotgun, but I don't use them much. Used to use Blue Dot for all my pistol magnum calibers, but pretty much just use 2400 now, instead. Good thing I bought another jug of it before the election.
Blue dot is like oxygen to me. I play with other powders, but Blue Dot is my go-to. I would go-to AA#9 if it was just more economical.
