Can't say I'm happy with this. Basically they're advocating that if you buy a gun that's outside your normal spending pattern on your credit card, you should be reported to the authorities and get a visit from the police. Another watch list, brilliant!!

Being forced to read the NY TIMES fits the definition of cruel and unusual punishment :(.
More "common sense" propoganda designed as bait and switch for their real agenda.
I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it.
Agree with everything you wrote, Rojo. At least the upside, so far, is the credit card companies want no part of it. Nice reminder not to do business with Bank of America and Citigroup, as well!
As an aside, anyone remember when BOA wanted to issue credit cards to illegal aliens without SS numbers, and charge really high interest rates? They didn't even consider that was the perfect way to move money around for terrorists. Nice for the NY Times to throw them a bone for their ethics..........
On the one hand, I feel this is a waste of time and resources. OTOH, I would prefer this to another assault weapons ban or standard capacity magazine ban. I don't want anything, but this is far from the worst fears I have.
I agree, but I think their long term thinking is that with enough publicity, the credit card companies will cave and not allow any firearm purchases at all with credit cards. Enough with the watch lists already, let's enforce the laws we already have.....
As you referenced; the credit card companies don't want to start trying to monitor and report on LEGAL activities and purchases.
As the initial article stated, New York liberals have gotten initial good results by attaching the financial & insurance legs of the firearms industry. Now it's far from clear what they've done will stand up to judicial review outside of liberal strongholds.
There are lots of payment options.... Credit Card companies have been very successful by utilizing "rewards" (paid for by processing fee structure imposed upon the merchants) to encourage consumers to use their credit cards for everyday purchases and online activity. However, it's an ever changing landscape. Electronic checks, Paypal, ACH, drafts, wires, countless and expanding list of mobile payment(Apple or Amazon are examples) options, cash, bitcoin, etc, etc..... I would say spying on your customers LEGAL activity to report to some shadow regulatory agency (more than they are already required to do) would have disastrous implications for their business. Technology moves pretty fast.
Consider that this is the very same rag that a few years ago sincerely heralded and promoted the utilization of a nebulous, complex, unaccountable government list (no fly list) as basis to attempt to deprive citizens of their constitutional protected rights. Compared to that liberal circlejerk fantasy, this is tame by comparison.
Wise to remain ever vigilant to these eternal attacks on our rights but this is just another going nowhere initiative progressives & liberals dream up.
