Title: Range time with 5.25 XD
Post by: jiminthe burg on December 12 2018 04:29:01 PM MST
Finally was able to get to the range with my purchase made last Friday.
Took an assortment of hand loads: 180 and 200 fmjs as well as some plated 200 gr  fp loaded with Blue Dot; Long Shot 180fmj; some 180 fmj with 800-X and some BE-86.
The 180 & 200 fmj were loaded with 8.5 and 10. grs of Blue Dot and the 200 coated with 8.5 B/D. I only shot 3 of the 200 gr fmj and decided it was not fun so I will save them for my 1006. All in all, accurate and the plated 200 gr were especially accurate.
I went early and as it was only in high 30's, I decided not to take the 180 with 8.5 grs of B-E and shot several 180 fmj with 7 grs particularly after reading Redline's post. It did ok in terms of accuracy.
Longshot-7. grs and 8.5 with a 180 fmj was accurate.
800-X 8.5 grains w/ 180 gr fmj was again accurate and recoil was manageable.
Only had 2 malfunctions and I do not think it was a problem with the gun. It would not completely chamber one of the plated rounds. I pulled the projectile when I got home and it was out of specifications-you could see where it rubbed the coating off a spot on the side. 1 fte- I don't think it was a problem with the gun-brass had been fired several times.
All in all, even though I don't like the cut out on slide, I have learned to over look it and I am happy that I have made this purchase. Used my free standing brass catcher so I was able to recover all of my brass. If I had not, would have lucky to recover 30-40 %. Got 3 mags. and completed the paper-work on line to get 3 more mag and more.
Hoping to go back tomorrow pm

Nice to finally see the XD in 10mm. I like the selection of 10mm that is slowly growing.
If there is a caliber that owes zero thanks to the FBI, it's 10mm.
We are still trying to fight the 550 ftlb standard that the FBI established.

2 weeks ago, completed paper work on line for 3 extra mag and range bag. Fed Ex dropped it off on my front porch tonight around 8:00 pm ( here in NC ).

funny thing is, the FBI just got rid of the last of their 10mm this year...how many people knew that? ya , they used sissy ammo loaded for them by federal, but still pretty cool.
