Gentlemen,
Greetings from California's central valley.
Recently I acquired a 9X25 Dillon barrel direct from Bar Sto and fitted it to my G20 slide, no troubles. I also acquired a set of Dillon dies to my collection for this caliber. Included in the dies was a sizing/depriming die, a bullet seating die & a crimp die, but no belling die.
I have discovered that the bell left on the brass isn't suitable for allowing a projectile to seat, the neck swells to the point that it won't chamber check. I figured, no worries, I'll back out my belling die for 357 Sig, and I made a few like that. After seating 10 or so, I thought I'd chamber check them again and found the same problem, only to a lesser extent. I also found that after crimping them, a greater percentage would chamber check, but I was still SOL on a few.
Long winded, I know, but, would y'all mind sharing any tips or secrets for success with this round?
I recently ordered the RCBS 9mm belling die, because I'd read that that is the ticket, but it hasn't arrived yet.
Come on fellas, can you help me out? Much appreciation, Paul
I used my Lyman M die for 358, but I also have had issues like you describe.
Gonna ask the question...Are you dealing with virgin 9X25 brass or are you converting 10mm brass?
Brand new Starline 10mm brass converted to 9X25. Try as I might, I never found a source for "new" 9X25 brass
slayer61, Double Tap used to be the only one with 9x25 headstamped brass, not sure if he has them for sale any more. I asked Starline if they would make some they said no but at the time said if I ordered 100K and paid a setup fee I could have my own headstamp with what I wanted...
QuoteThe minimum quantity for a run of 9x25 Dillon with a small primer pocket would be 100,000 pieces. The price would be $136/per 1,000 and there would be a $750 tooling fee for the headstamp (What the headstamp reads would be your choice). This would be straight, un-necked brass.

The Dillon dies work very well for the 9x25 Dillon case formation however be sure not to over size pushing the shoulder down too far! You will want the headspacing to be 0.000" flush even with the barrel hood for the best brass longevity and no more than 0.002" below otherwise you will see case neck separations or splitting!
As far as the flaring die I Use the RCBS 9mm expander die which provide the straightest necks, while maintaining the best case to bullet fit tension...the LEE expander not so much but it will work...
I will have to see how these work on my new RL550 using the 9mm powder funnel.
Thanks shadow & everybody. I think I'm off to a good start. I will shoot the few that I have made & move forward with the others when my new dies come in.
Again, Thanks all.
Recent update:
The RCBS 9mm expander die arrived and was put to the test, after reading the instructions.
It was the first time I remember reading that I should be belling "until the projectile doesn't rock" in the brass. I set the die according to instructions and made up a couple of dummies, and like magic, they dropped tested without issue. I'm pretty happy with the results.
Mrs. slayer has agreed to a range day before Christmas. Looking forward to it. Merry Christmas everybody!
Sounds great, lets know how they shoot! :D
This is a little bit of a rabbit trail
Just a thought, if you are looking for a companion carbine, go with the TNW ASR in 10mm.
You can then order a 357 Sig barrel and rent a 9x25 chamber reamer from 4D Reamer Rentals and make a 9x25.
I chamber reamed a 45 ACP barrel to 460 Rowland for my ASR and it shoots sweet.

HOLY CRAP! The 9X25 is a BLAST ;D to shoot! I'm just about to give up on my 357 Sig range toys in favor of the Dillon offering!
I got to the range with my otherwise stock G20sf a week or so ago with my chrono and a batch of test cartridges.
All were made with virgin Starline 10mm brass, 90 grain Hornady XTP projectiles and WLP primers.
First up was 11.5 grains of Longshot. Avg. velocity was 1732 fps with a 96 fps spread from hi to lo
Next batch was 12 grains. Velocity increased to 1831 avg with 43 fps spread, hi to lo.
Lastly the charge was upped to 12.5 grains and speed went to an average of 1863 fps with a high of 1896 FPS! :o but the spread went back up to 65.
When I make more with the 90 grain xtps, I will go back to 12 grains of Longshot.
I also shoot a bunch of 115 grain xtps just Saturday with 11 grains of Longshot. No chrono this time, just a great fun round to shoot.
slayer61, Glad you're enjoying the cartridge. BTW what length barrel are you using?
STD Glock 20 length. Nothing fancy.
Ok that helps explain the velocity numbers. This round really comes into its own with the 6" barrel. I shot them from G-20 6", S&W 5" and the G-29 3.78"
